As
expected and
unveiled two weeks ago already,
O2 Germany today announced the
upcoming launch of its
HTC
Touch Diamond version which O2 will call the
"O2 Xda diamond". O2's
diamond
is also running on Microsoft's recently announced Windows Mobile 6.1 and will feature triband
GSM/GPRS/EDGE at 900/1800/1900 MHz as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA at 900/2100
MHz up to 3.6 Mbps
plus HSUPA (even if O2 Germany doesn't have HSUPA in place today). Powered by a
Qualcomm CPU at 528 MHz, the Xda diamond also features Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WiFi b/g,
eGPS and a FM radio. The device is backed-up by 128 MB 192 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM and
includes 4 GB flash memory. However, a flash card expansion is left -
unfortunately:

The touch-sensitive 2.8" screen supports VGA (640x480) resolution and on the
backside, the Xda diamond features a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera plus a front
facing VGA camera for UMTS video telephony.
In addition to the typical Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional applications - which
again includes the so often missing
Remote Desktop Terminal client - the O2 Xda diamond also
includes HTC's brand new
TouchFLO 3D,
Opera Mobile
9.5, a special Windows Mobile
YouTube client,
Google Maps
Mobile and TomTom Navigator which however includes one free city-map download
only. Additionally maps have to be purchased separately.
The Xda diamond should be available from O2 Germany later next month, a price wasn't
announced so far.
UPDATE: Without a contract, O2 will sell the Xda Diamond for 549.99
Euro. With a 24-month plan, the Xda Diamond will be available from 99 Euro only.
Cheers ~ Arne
