PHOTOVIEW: Nokia Lumia 1020 41 Megapixel PureView Windows Phone 8
Posted by Arne Hess - at 12:34 CET under 08 - Reviews

Announced back in July, I finally got the chance to play a little bit longer with Nokia's Windows Phone camera flagship, the Nokia Lumia 1020, which went first on sale in the U.S. The Lumia 1020 is the Windows Phone successor of the Symbian-based Nokia 808 and like its step-brother it's featuring Nokia's unique 41 megapixel PureView technology. When launched, no other Windows Phone was as powerful as the Lumia 1020 which runs Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 and is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm S4 CPU. The European version supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE at 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, quadband UMTS/HSPA+ up to 42.2 Mbps at 850/900/1900/2100 MHz as well as pentaband LTE up to 100 Mbps at 800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz; the AT&T version features slightly different bands, optimized for North America.

Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:55 CET under 08 - Reviews

HTC definitely loves special editions, doesn't matter if they are 24-carat Gold or designed by some of the world's most recognized fashion designers. And do you remember the HTC One mini by David Koma, who is one of the rising stars of British fashion? For the recent London Fashion Week, HTC and Koma joint forces and the British designer created an exclusive special edition of the HTC One mini. This limited run of 10 handsets features two different unique artworks from the designer, which was created to celebrate HTC's "change" concept. One of the unique abstract designs was inspired by David Koma's Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, while the other gave a flavor of what was to come in the Spring/Summer 2014 show.

QUICKVIEW: Sonos Play:1 Wireless Speaker
Posted by Arne Hess - at 18:54 CET under 08 - Reviews

Last month launched in the U.S., Sonos' latest wireless speaker - the Sonos Play:1 - is also available in Europe since this month. I don't think that the Sonos system needs any further introduction but if you haven't heard about it yet, it's a wireless HiFi speaker system. It unites locally available digital music collections and streaming services in one app that can be used on smartphones, tablets and PC and notebooks. If more than one Sonos wireless speaker is used, it either plays the same or different music on each speaker and Sonos offers a wide range of wireless speakers. From the brand new Play:1 to the Play:3 and Play:5 to the Sonos Sub subwoofer and the TV-compatible Sonos Playbar. With the Play:1, Sonos introduced the yet most inexpensive wireless speaker.

REVIEW: Beats by Dre new Beats Studio Over-Ear Headphones
Posted by Arne Hess - at 18:02 CET under 08 - Reviews

The smartphone - I don't have to tell you - is nowadays far more than just a mobile phone with touchscreen but as important functionalities like phone and Internet access are, as important are features like the camera and music playback. No wonder that, according to a recent survey of Germany BITKOM, 93 % of the Germans between 14 and 29 use headsets and that around 54 % of all headset users use them with smartphones. Now it comes to the questions which headset is the right one. There's hardly the ultimate answer but during the past 3 weeks, I had the pleasure to test the new Beats by Dre Beats Studio over-ear headsets which were introduced earlier this summer and which replaced the original Beats Studio headsets.

QUICKVIEW: HTC Fetch Bluetooth 4.0 LE Tracker and Remote Camera Shutter
Posted by Arne Hess - at 16:35 CET under 08 - Reviews

Ok, I have to admit that I have a soft spot for smart, little accessories and the HTC Fetch, announced back in August by HTC, fits perfectly into this category. It's a small black plastic Bluetooth dongle which only measures 29.35 x 29.35 x 9.3 mm and comes with a keychain. If paired via Bluetooth, it activates the phone's ringtone if 15 meters away from each other. And if both are lost, a convenient map location feature informs where the Fetch and phone were seen last together. Thanks to Bluetooth 4.0 LE, the coin cell battery is said to be good enough for a working time of up to 6 month and Bluetooth 4.0 LE is also not heavily draining the HTC One, One mini and One max, with which the Fetch is compatible. However, Fetch is also compatible with certain HTC Windows Phones.
