PLACESHIFTING: Sling Media unveils new Slingbox Features related to Movies, Media and More

Sling Media has yesterday announced the official release of its latest firmware upgrades for the Slingbox 500, Slingbox 350, Slingbox Pro-HD and Slingbox Solo, which contain several new interesting features. Owners of a Slingbox 500 have now access to "Blockbuster On Demand". As part of the firmware and software client update, Blockbuster On Demand is now the premium video service for the Slingbox 500. It allows owners to search, browse, view trailers and rent movies for viewing on their big-screen TVs. However, Blockbuster on Demand can't be used to placeshift Blockbuster movies to remote Laptops, smartphones or tablets. It only works with the connected TV.

CHANGE: HTC CEO Peter Chou to temporarily concentrate on Innovation and Product Portfolio

HTC's CEO Peter Chou was very much under pressure recently after HTC posted its first quarter loss since the Taiwanese smartphone maker went public. As it seems now, Chou and the HTC top management realized it that Chou had his hands in way too many areas and therefore HTC's co-founder and chairwoman Cher Wang jumped in and has increased her operational role to lighten the load on Peter Chou. According to a Financial Times report, Chou said "I have become very focused in the past couple of months. Before that I was too busy" and continued "I took on too many things. I need to be more focused on innovation and product portfolio."

SERVICE: Deutsche Bahn provides free WiFi HotSpots in its Train Stations

Traveling through or  exploring Germany by train? Then, Deutsche Bahn, the state own railroad, has some good news. As announced today, customers and visitors of their train stations can use from now 30 minutes of free WiFi - each day. Deutsche Bahn and Deutsche Telekom have now equipped more than 100 stations nationwide with WiFi which can be either used with Deutsche Telekom HotSpot credentials, or free of charge. As said in the press release, in recent years, the use of WiFi hotspots at train stations has risen by an average of 20 %. After 75 stations have been equipped with hotspots last year, Deutsche Bahn and Deutsche Telekom are now offering WiFi hotspots at 105 train stations.

UPCOMING: YouTube Mobile goes Offline (Mode) aka Cached

As YouTube unveiled yesterday evening, it's working on a major enhancement of its mobile app. According to a blog post, YouTube is "always exploring ways to bring more viewers to the content" and as part of this effort, later this year Google's video subsidiary will therefore launch a new feature on YouTube's mobile apps that aims to help to reach fans - even when they're not connected to the Internet. This upcoming feature will allow people to add videos to their device to watch for a short period when an Internet connection is unavailable. So fans' ability to enjoy videos no longer has to be interrupted by something as commonplace as a morning commute.
