AVAILABILITY: AT&T announces HP Veer webOS Smartphone launch for mid of May
Posted by Arne Hess - at 16:37 CET under 05 - Other Mobile OS News

AT&T today announced that it will launch the HP Veer on May 15. Unveiled by HP back in February, the HP Veer 4G - as AT&T is going to call it - will give users access to the web, apps, social networks and more, all in one powerfully small design. For those who value size, pocketability and style, Veer offers a refreshing alternative to the larger smartphone devices that are currently in the market, without compromising on functionality. Powered by HP webOS 2.1 and a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7230 CPU at 800 MHz, AT&T's HP Veer 4G supports triband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 850/1900/2100 MHz, WiFi b/g Bluetooth 2.1 and aGPS.

SERVICE: Check-in to Untappd with growlr for webOS
Posted by Arne Hess - at 16:35 CET under 05 - Other Mobile OS News

Any Untappd users out there? If so, today the first Untappd client for webOS was released. Similar to Foursquare, Untappd allows users to check-in but not into a location but into a beer a user is enjoying. As Untappd explains it, it's a new way "to socially share the brew you're currently enjoying, as well as where you're enjoying it, with your friends". However, so far Untappd was a browser based social service but with Zhephree's (who is well known for his famous webOS Foursquare client) release of "growlr", webOS users will now be able to search for a beer, or choose one recently checked-in to or one that's currently trending - straight from its own webOS app!

CONFIRMED: O2 Germany to carry the HP Veer webOS Smartphone

At 54.5 x 84.0 x 15.1 mm and only 103 grams, the Veer is powered by a CPU at 800 MHz and features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as triband UMTS/HSPA, a vivid 2.57" glass 320 x 400 resolution display touchscreen, full slide-out keyboard, 8 GB of internal user storage, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, integrated aGPS and a 5 megapixel camera as well as a proximity and light sensor and an accelerometer.

FIRMWARE: O2 Germany announces webOS 2.1 Upgrade for the HP Palm Pre Plus [UPDATE]
Posted by Arne Hess - at 11:26 CET under 05 - Other Mobile OS News

Following earlier information that HP won't release any webOS 2.x updates or upgrades for its current line of Palm webOS smartphones like the Palm Pre, Palm Pixi and Pixi Plus, O2 Germany just confirmed via Twitter that Palm will release a webOS 2.1 upgrade for the company's Palm Pre Plus version soon. However, what makes it even more interesting and mysterious is the fact that O2 Germany seems to receive the Pre Plus webOS 2.1 upgrade exclusively which means Vodafone customers won't get the latest and greatest webOS 2.1 bits and bytes at all (the Palm Pre Plus is/was in Germany on sale by both - O2 Germany and Vodafone Germany).
