UNVEILED: HP announces the Veer webOS Smartphone

HP today announced the HP Veer webOS 2.1 smartphone. The Veer is the smallest webOS phone to date - the size of a credit card and no thicker than a deck of cards - yet it offers the higher-end features of a smartphone, such as easy messaging and access to apps, social networks and the web, including support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Beta in the browser for access to rich, Flash-based web content. It has a full slide-out keyboard, vivid touchscreen and access to thousands of webOS apps in a surprisingly small, modern package that fits easily into a pocket or purse. It’s everything a smartphone should be, but in a smarter size.

PEEK: Palm teases with a short "Think Beyond" video - new Smartphone or first Tablet ahead?

What ever HP Palm plans to announce at next week's press event and the week after at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the webOS maker seems to be somewhat proud of it and is teasing its fans with a 9 seconds YouTube video. While you can't see anything beyond shapes and corners, it might be a sneak peek of either a new Palm smartphone or Palm's first webOS tablet. The press invitation, which asked to think big, small and beyond, indicates that HP Palm really plans to launch three different types of webOS devices and/or services.

ROADMAP: HP to show new HP (Palm) webOS Products at the Mobile World Congress?

HP has just sent out its media invitation for next month's Mobile World Congress and it looks like HP will indeed show a couple of new webOS products in Barcelona. However, it also looks like HP is also getting rid of the Palm brand because the invitation doesn't mention Palm with a single word. According to the February 9th invitation, it's expected that HP could show a couple of new webOS-based smartphones as well as it most likely shows its first webOS Tablets but it seems HP has learned and isn't losing a single hint in its Mobile World Congress invitation anymore.
