PPCW.NET: Mazingo with problems on PPCW.Net channels? [UPDATE 29.04.02]
Posted by Arne Hess - at 15:36 CET under 06 - Site News

I'm not sure and I think I'm not the only one but for me it seems that there are some problems with my Mazingo channels? I don't know for how long (something around last weekend) but it took to long that my channels appear after synchronization on the Pocket PC. Also no image, expect the header graphic is loaded on my Pocket PCs. The point is, that I didn't changed anything on the server or on the PHP code and what worked before, don't works anymore now. That the PHP stuff is correct can be seen also on the AvantGo customer channels

PPCW.NET: The PPCW.Net Support Forum is launched
Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:12 CET under 06 - Site News

When I relaunched PPCW.Net on the new server, I told you that I'm thinking about additional features to add to PPCW.Net. One, I was thinking about for a long time, was a Support Forum. Finally I made the necessary PHP code and everything works well.

Why another forum and what was my intention? First of all, the PPCW.Net Forum (which is also accessible from http://forum.ppcw.net) shouldn't become another general forum. Therefore I'm still working with Jerome on WirelessForums.Net! The PPCW.Net Forum should be a help and more or less FAQ forum. In the past I got so many E-Mails about problems, some for you had with configuration and other things, that I thought it might be a good idea to discuss this publicly, that others can follow this discussions and add their experiences. Also a lot of you posted questions as a comment to articles. Some of this articles and questions are so interesting that it is a bummer if this feedback goes down in the mass of articles/comments.
Therefore it should be more or less an open discussion about solutions for dedicated problems, not that kind of general talks (not today, who knows what happens) or even announcements, if this announcements aren't related in any kind with the products! So a driver announcement will added there for sure, a general product announcement not, if not related in anyway with a product/problem and isn't covered by PPCW.Net in general.

So here are the rules I thought about:

PPCW.NET: Domain move of PocketPCWriter.Net and Unwired-I.Net
Posted by Arne Hess - at 11:37 CET under 06 - Site News

Due to the move of the previous URLs of PPCW.Net to a new registrar, PocketPCWriter.Net and Unwired-I.Net might not be available within the next few days. Please update your Bookmarks to PPCW.Net as this is the official domain now. PocketPCWriter.Net and Unwired-I.Net will be redirected to PPCW.Net only.

If you access PPCW.Net from your Pocket PC, also don't forget to update the Mobile Favorites to www.ppcw.net for the redirected version or mobile.ppcw.net for the direct access!

Cheers ~ Arne

PPCW.NET: Integration of mobile channels - shame on me! :-(
Posted by Arne Hess - at 11:29 CET under 06 - Site News

What a shame, but with the move to the new server, I completely forgot to redesign the mobile channels of PPCW.Net. Not the design only was wrong but also the whole PHP stuff... :-( Buh...
Anyway, now everything is done and you can enjoy PPCW.Net on your Pocket PC again! :-)

PPCW.N: Finalized the Server migration... Finally... :-)
Posted by Arne Hess - at 10:37 CET under 06 - Site News

Wow, what a deal! Let me tell you what I did the last days and what happened:

First of all, last Thursday I got my new DSL line which really helped me to migrate from one server and database to another. However, When I tried to post this last week - as happy as I was, my previous server doesn't allow me to post anything more... :-( Therefore I wasn't able to gave you the latest update... :-(((
Anyway - on Friday I left my home for an Easter weekend in Austria, my last chance for this year to go snowboarding. Therefore I wasn't able to work on the server.

Now I'm back and everything is done. What changed and what will change within the next days too:

  • I have a new (more expensive) server, with more included bandwidth
  • I have a new SQL database running in the background which seems to give better performance
  • Pocket PC Writer.Net changed to PPCW.Net for two reasons:
    • I want to shorten the URL for a long time as Pocket PC Writer.Net was ugly to enter on a Pocket PC
    • My new provider wasn't able to give me a static IP address where I could redirect Pocket PC Writer.Net. Therefore I needed a new Domain - so I thought it was the perfect time! :-)
However PPCW.Net is still available from Pocket PC Writer.Net, so use what ever you want.
    • However, have in mind that Pocket PC Writer.Net is called now PPCW.Net only as my site is not dealing with Pocket PC related topics only but everything about Windows CE(.Net) and the wireless world. So this cryptic name - which still reminds on Pocket PC Writer.Net is perfect. ;-)
  • I still use the old Content Management System - as you see but I made some modifications on the script. This should speed up the performance too. However, I will modify the layout to a leaner one, so within the next days you may recognize some errors, that's normal if a non-developer like me tries to modify PHP codes... ;-)
  • All previous articles AND comments from Pocket PC Writer.Net will be also available on PPCW.Net, I decided that this is important! :-)
  • Anything else? I think I have everything for now. Please be patient the next days, as I still have to make some modifications.

Cheers ~ Arne
