CONNECTIVITY: Pocket Presence released Running Voice GSM 2.0 Beta
Posted by Arne Hess - at 16:29 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

As Pocket Presence, the maker of Running Voice GSM, already announced in January the first Beta of Running Voice 2.0 becomes available now and brings major changes and enhancements:

Running Voice GSM 2.0 is quite similar to the 1.x on the user interface level, but underneath a lot has happened. Most enhancements in 2.0 are based on the following new components:

Major new features

  • Works together with Bluetooth headset
  • Much improved Bluetooth phone support
  • Data communication statistics (via Flexport GSM)
  • Simplified data connection configuration (via Flexport GSM)
  • Easy switching between voice/SMS/data (using Flexport GSM)
  • Signal strength indicator in the navigation bar
  • Syncing of SMS between the phone and PDA

Flexport GSM
Flexport GSM is a separate application and handles by default all communication on a Pocket PC device. Flexport GSM is able to manage several parallel communication sessions with different applications. As Flexport manages all data communication you can view, as well, download statistics over a period of time. Also found in Flexport GSM is a semi-automatic network wizard for configuring data connections in GSM networks (GPRS as well as CSD) all over the world.

Posted by Arne Hess - at 19:35 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Pixer enables users to send photos and sketches to mobile phones and email from wireless handhelds

The ability to send photographs, sketches and picture greetings to and from mobile devices via email and the multimedia-messaging service (MMS) is widely viewed as a key revenue generator for providers of next generation telephony services. Electric Pocket Limited’s latest application, Pixer, is the first solution to bring MMS picture messaging to today’s Palm OS and Pocket PC handheld users. Pixer enables users to send annotated picture messages and photographs from wireless handheld devices to any email address or mobile telephone equipped with MMS capabilities.

Pixer enables users to send and receive picture messages and handwritten notes directly from any wireless device using the Palm OS or Pocket PC operating systems. Pixer is specifically designed for making picture messaging easier for users, as they can take advantage of the handheld computers’ screen and stylus when composing messages. Users can either import photographs into Pixer or choose from an extensive catalog of ZipNotes templates featuring commonly used business stationery and fun cartoon characters, including Garfield, Cathy and Ziggy. Pictures and photographs can be annotated directly with the user’s own handwriting and then sent to any email address or MMS capable telephone.

Posted by Arne Hess - at 14:16 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

One month ago I've reviewed the test version of ALL-locations GPRS Traffic Counter which is a must for every GPRS user and as announced, from today the commercial version of ALL-locations GPRS Traffic Counter 3.0 is available at

The ALL-locations GPRS Traffic Counter will help you to get a grip on your GPRS Traffic. The GPRS Traffic Counter is a tool that measures traffic through different types of dial-up connections. For example, GPRS traffic can be measured with your GPRS enabled PocketPC 2002, but also with a Bluetooth PocketPC 2002 in combination with a GPRS mobile phone.

The GPRS Traffic Counter will save your traffic statistics. Data traffic can be viewed in a graphical and a textual way. You can view data over different pre-defined periods (day, month or year) or you can view traffic data over a self-defined period. Using the information about your traffic, the GPRS Traffic Counter will also estimate the costs of your GPRS connection. The GPRS Traffic Counter also measures the average connection speed.

WIRELESS WEB: Finally Bitstream released its ThunderHawk web browser
Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:09 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

ThunderHawk was announced for a long time, now it's available for download. ThunderHawk is an alternative web browser for Pocket PCs:

Bringing the desktop browser experience to the Pocket PC
ThunderHawk gives you the same browsing experience on a Pocket PC as you are used to on the desktop. You can view the full text and images of any Web page without excessive scrolling. Because it does not rely on WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) or cHTML (Compact HyperText Markup Language), ThunderHawk does not require Web content providers to repurpose their content — or build one Web site for the desktop and another for the wireless world.

Leveraging Experience in Fonts and Font Technology
ThunderHawk comes from Bitstream, a world-renowned developer of font technology and high-quality digital fonts. By leveraging its expertise in font technology, Bitstream can display full Web pages on small color LCD screens (320 x 240) while maintaining full text legibility.

Here how the Web Edition of PPCW.Net looks on the ThunderHawk browser:

REVIEW: c't reviewed 'Das große Buch Pocket PC 2002'
Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:09 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News
