SOLUTION: Wireless Sales & Order Processing
Posted by Arne Hess - at 15:34 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Millions of deliveries are made each day, frequently with paper documentation at the point of handover of the goods. That documentation is frequently processed by hand and then dispatched by post for subsequent input into a computer system. Significant delays in invoicing can occur due to lost or unreadable paperwork. Such manual processes can now be re-engineered by using the award-winning o2 xda coupled with wireless sales and order processing.

The Solution
Use your o2 xda to log sales, deliveries or any other process, upload the transaction details for instant viewing by remote users and automatically send confirmation emails direct from the Pocket PC at the touch of a button. The comprehensive package includes wireless enabled transaction logging software and a desktop viewer. If you have Excel you can instantly produce invoices at the touch of a button direct from the desktop or set it to automatically retrieve transactions as they occur and send the details straight to a database. The software can be tailored readily to suit particular customer requirements and applications.

ARTICLE: The Register has more information about a HTC Smartphone 2002
Posted by Arne Hess - at 11:26 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Orange UK is evaluating a reference design for a Stinger smartphone (aka Microsoft Smartphone 2002) produced by contract manufacturer HTC, according to documents received by The Register.
The network is already believed to have struck a deal with Sendo for its much-delayed Z100 phone, also based on the Stinger platform.

MS CanaryThe vanilla Canary reference design contains few surprises. It's based on Texas Instruments OMAP 720, weighs 95g and is a triband GSM/GPRS device. Delays in getting Microsoft's GPRS stack to stay up long enough to salute have contributed to delays in shipping Stingers so far, as Microsoft itself has acknowledged. HTC claims the device allows 3 hours talktime or 100 hours of standby. There's USB and MMC support. The Canary boasts a 176x220 64,000 colour display and it looks like this:

Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:50 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

July 20, 2002: Today marks the official launch of http://www.ipaqpetition.com. At this website, users who have experienced problems with their HP/Compaq iPAQ Pocket PCs can sign a petition asking Hewlett Packard to fix or refund their devices.

The petition contains dozens of documented issues that some iPAQ Pocket PCs suffer from. As a result, for many owners the iPAQ PocketPC is a defective device. The petition also contains a list of documented issues that the PocketPC 2000 and 2002 Operating Systems suffer from. These issues are contained within the petition to further demonstrate the reduced usefulness of these devices, although the petition does not demand resolution from HP/Compaq to these OS-related issues.

The petition is a formal statement expressing the complaint that HP/Compaq has not adequately supported these products. The petition also offers HP/Compaq the opportunity to resolve this situation in one of two ways:

RUMORS: Will the T-Mobile MDA be launched within the next few days? [UPDATE 12.07.02]
Posted by Arne Hess - at 10:33 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

According to different sources, the T-Mobile MDA (equal to the O2 xda but with a little bit different design) is ready to be released soon at least in Germany. Today no word was given about an introduction in the US American VoiceStream network. Also the European MDA differentiates from the American as the European one will be launched as dual-band supporting GSM 900/1800 MHz while the US MDA will support 900/1900 MHz.

UPDATE: According to the latest information, the MDA should be launched on 15.07. - which is next Monday! Still no word about other T-Mobile subsidiaries like Austria, USA or UK. Seems as Germany becomes the #1 PPC Phone Edition country... ;-)

As far as I've heard also, T-Mobile is planning to introduce - right with the launch of the German MDA - a Pocket PC optimized Web portal. This should includes at least all T-Mobile WAP categories like:

MERGER: The iPAQ H3900 will be launcehd under the Compaq brand
Posted by Arne Hess - at 19:44 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Maybe you wonder also if the iPAQ H3900 will be launched under Compaq or HP brand? The nice folks of Compaq Europe gave the following feedback:

"HP has decided to keep the Compaq logo and packaging on the 3900 series. Why? The launch of the device (24th June 02) was relatively close after the launch of 'the new HP' (7th May 02). Until the official merger close the companies were not allowed to co-operate, therefore both had to progress in the 'old plans' during the pre-merger phase.
To re-design and change the brand from Compaq iPAQ to HP iPAQ on the 3900 would slow down the introduction of the device to the market. Between the 2 'bad choices'- "introduce HP iPAQ under the new brand but
