NOTEPAD CLONE: NotBad for Smartphone 2002

Michael Bodenhoff, the guy behind DoomSPV finalized his latest project, a "simple" Notepad for Smartphone 2002. The Smartphone doesn't contains any Outlook Notes equal application nor any other note taker. So I was using the SMS messages if I wanted to write anything down. But thanks to Michael I can store my thoughts (and if it is a simple shopping list only) as a txt file on the SPV.

CAMERA: Becomes the first Pocket PC SD Card camera reality?
Posted by Arne Hess - at 18:01 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Two months ago I wrote in my column "THOUGHT: Why - oh why - isn't SDIO supported on the xda and..." about my thoughts not to have SDIO compliant Pocket PCs available today:

"However, now the next fine SD sized accessory becomes available soon and again it doesn't include any Pocket PC support. :-(

It's the Veo Photo Traveler for Palm - a SD camera which will be released within the next two - three weeks and should costs US$ 99.99 only"

John commented it that time with the following knowledge: "The xda can support SDIO devices as long as they convert to Data SD on the chip. Camera and GPS devices already exist for the xda. Bluetooth SD cards will follow as soon as the Bluetooth manufactures see enough volumes to include the extra chip."

It seems that my dreams come true because Pocket PC Thoughts reported now about the first SD Camera which works - according to "expansys.com" - also with Pocket PCs:

Spectec SD Camera for PPC and Palm

Superb SD camera that works in Pocket PC and Palm OS devices - the drivers are already installed on the card.

APPROVAL: Compal's Smartphone 2002 got the final FCC approval
Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:01 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

I'm not sure if I missed this news before but I just found it on the FCC's web site. In December last year, Compal's Smartphone 2002 got the final approval by the US American FFC.

According to the documentation, the "QQX-AR11" is a GSM 1900 MHz device (no words given if it is single, dual or even triple band anyhow) and was already presented by Microsoft as the Texas Instruments OMAP reference design device:

For sure, the FCC can not talk about commercial agreements and therefore I don't know which operator might license this Smartphone 2002.

BCL VoiceContact for PocketPC Phone Edition lets you dial numbers by simply speaking digits, or you can use your voice to access and call anyone in your contact list. Even better, it’s ready to use right out of the box: no training is necessary for any of the commands, and hard to pronounce names in the address book can be easily assigned a nickname with a simple tap-and-hold.
