MAINTENANCE: Server down Monday Night GMT
Posted by Arne Hess - at 18:00 CET under 06 - Site News

Just want to let you know, that tonight GMT - Monday 31.03 to Tuesday 01.04 - web server is upgraded and will not be available. Unfortunately I don't know how long this downtime will be.

My hosting service will change a whole bunch of software on the server which includes upgrades to PHP 4.2.3, Perl 5.6.1, MySQL-Client 3.23.49 and DBM 2.0.

They will also change the server OS from Suse to Debian Linux (shame on me that I'm running a Linux server ;-) )

As I'm currently in Paris on the Microsoft MDC, I hope everything will works fine anyhow without me at home. Please keep the fingers crossed with me.

TRAVELING: Packing for Paris and going to MDC Europe and Möbius 2003
Posted by Arne Hess - at 19:31 CET under 06 - Site News

I just want to let you know, that I might be limited or maybe not with updating PPCW.Net because I'm currently packing my backs to go to Paris.

I'm always afraid that I forget something (technology wise, not clothes wise), something I need in a situation and which is at home. However, from year to year traveling is lighter, thanks to smaller Notebooks (or better Subnotebooks), (Wireless) Pocket PC (phone Edition) and Smartphones. :-D

Guerrero, better known as “ppcsurfr” from PPCW.Net and other sites.

Welcome on board Carlos! :-D

CALL: PPCW.Net is looking for Contributors!
Posted by Arne Hess - at 19:03 CET under 06 - Site News

Okay folks, this is your chance to become part of the PPCW.Net team because I'm looking for wireless mobile geeks from all over the world

What I'm looking for in detail are contributors and authors, who shares my passion for Windows CE driven mobile devices but are as wireless minded as me and who wants to contribute news, views and/or reviews about wireless developments from its area of the world.

In fact I'm looking for some people from the US/Canada, Europe, Southeast Asia/Far East and Australia/New Zealand to cover the developments in its area of the world.

SITE NEWS: PPCW.Net with some modifications
Posted by Arne Hess - at 14:19 CET under 06 - Site News

As you might noticed, PPCW.Net appears in a slightly modified layout and with some different functionalities. That's so far what you can see on the front end but the most important things happened in the backend.

Overall, Calin (my site developer who made the time to step back into PPCW.Net to give me some helping hands for the modifications) and I was working on PPCW.Net during the past 14 days (mostly nights) to improve the performance, the admin interface and giving PPCW.Net a new look and feel.

So what's new for you and me?

First of all, we moved to a different system by implementing a lot of the previous code into that new system. Therefore we merged best of both systems... :-)

ADS: Googles Content Targeted Banners and Towers on PPCW.Net
Posted by Arne Hess - at 11:03 CET under 06 - Site News

Like many website, also PPCW.Net needs banners ads to pay for the web server, online costs and a little bit more. With Tribal Fusion I found a superb partner in selling my banner space to them and they handle all the advertisers and not only this, the ads are mostly pretty focused to the topics of PPCW.Net anyway. However, during the past days you might have recognized this kind of gray banners and towers which aren't so fancy and colorful but with a gray background only, blue links and black texts? Also this is advertising, powered by Googles recently announced new "Content-Targeted Advertising" program which is an extension of the company’s AdWords program.
