PREVIEW: PPCW.Net i-Mate Smartphone 2002
Posted by Arne Hess - at 19:01 CET under 08 - Reviews

Today I received the sample i-Mate Smartphone. It's the same device, which is currently available from PPCW.Net except that this sample doesn't includes the manual and CD-ROM which will be delivered with the commercial version for sure.

Overall, the PPCW.Net i-Mate - which is based on the HTC Tanager - is identically with the Orange SPV - which is based on the HTC Canary, an earlier developed device. So the PPCW.Net i-Mate uses the same StrongARM CPU as well as it includes a 32 MB Flash ROM and 16 MB RAM. The minor differences are in the general device design as well as the used screen.

PHOTO PREVIEW: ASUS MyPal A620 - the speed demon.
Posted by Carlo Guerrero - at 21:50 CET under 08 - Reviews

Asustek recently launched their second Pocket PC, the MyPal A620. This differs from the concept of the MyPal A600 as this unit is positioned to be an entry level device rather than an advanced model. The MyPal A620 at first look resembles its older sibling the MyPal A600 in looks, but handling it will reveal more differences that makes the MyPal A620 a top-notch entry-level device with super-PDA strengths.

I was lucky enough to handle one and put it through such rudimentary tests. Results are of course unbelievable. No one would expect such results from a supposed entry-level unit.

THOUGHT: Does Siemens know their customers?
Posted by Arne Hess - at 21:37 CET under 09 - Thoughts

Ouch, I gave this ZDNet UK story a look and it's weird 8O what I had to read there about Siemens' thoughts and strategies and reasons for it. It's about why Microsoft's Smartphones doesn't fits into Siemens product product portfolio.

Here are some quotes from Peter Zapf, president of mobile phones speaking at the Symbian developer conference in London and in addition my comments and thoughts:

"Unlike PCs, which thrive on their use of uniform, interchangeable hardware components, mobile phones must be individualized for particular types of users", Zapf said

Well, nothing new. That's why ringtones and pictures/operator logos was/are so successful when they was introduced by Nokia in 1998.

COMPARISON: How PPCW.Net looks on different mobile devices
Posted by Arne Hess - at 16:42 CET under 09 - Thoughts

As you might know, net access is one of the most important requirements I have to a mobile device such as a PDA or smart phone.

Thanks to "Dub Wireless", now I have also some screenshots of different Symbian devices using build-in and 3rd party browsers. Also I've snapped some comparable screenshots of my Windows Powered devices such as Pocket PC 2002 and Smartphone 2002. Overall - doesn't matter which browser and device you take - it looks amazing and promising and most of all I'm pretty proud, that the Wireless version of PPCW.Net looks so good on all devices! :-)
