THOUGHT: Enthusiast websites - a kind of 'self-service shop' for companies?
Posted by Arne Hess - at 18:02 CET under 09 - Thoughts

I think I get this thought at least once a month but as thoughts come - they also go but this time I want to write about it (maybe because the weather is so lousy today that I don't want to do anything else).
This week, I had a couple of phone calls, SMS messages and instant messages with my fellow MVP Joe of If you are not German-speaking but a Smartphone enthusiast you know - I'm sure - Paul's MoDaCo. Joe's is the same but in German; it's the Smartphone forum here and if you have visited it lately you might have seen the following message there:

"Traffic Limit Reached" and now you even get a DNS error! 8O

BEING MOBILE: 2 Days in China with more Windows Mobile experience on Day 2
Posted by Carlo Guerrero - at 11:06 CET under 09 - Thoughts

The second day in the China High-Tech Fair gives me more time to cover the rest of the halls and go back to the Telecom hall for a look at the latest in the mobile phone world. There are some camera phones which now feature optical zoom as well as 3.2 megapixel cameras. 3G phones were on display and the fashion phones were also featured there. Of course I had to go back to those booths that had Windows Mobile devices on display.

BEING MOBILE: 2 Days in the China High-Tech Fair... quite lucky on day 1
Posted by Carlo Guerrero - at 21:16 CET under 09 - Thoughts

The night after the Hong Kong Electronics fair, we took the bus to China. The bus ride to China was a pleasant one and I actually slept most of the trip. Crossing the border was a bit unnerving though since I didn't speak Chinese and we were handpicked out of the many who cross the border to have our baggage checked. Everything went on fine though and soon we were at our hotel. It was again another opportunity to taste genuine chinese cuisine.

BEING MOBILE: 2 Days in Hong Kong in search of a Windows Mobile device
Posted by Carlo Guerrero - at 12:46 CET under 09 - Thoughts

My Hong Kong schedule was quite hectic. As soon as we got to Hong Kong, we only had enough time to have a quick lunch and had had to hurry down to the Convention Center. The exhibit was quite huge with various products on display from TV sets to Refrigerators and DVD players to USB flash drives and MP3 players. I saw a lot of various electronic products there such as clocks and medical equipment. I was told not to expect to see any Windows Mobile powered device in the Hong Kong exhibit and it was quite true. I didn't see anything there except for a couple of Windows CE.Net powered devices.

THOUGHT: Smartphone Navigation - the next hype?
Posted by Arne Hess - at 11:20 CET under 09 - Thoughts

For some weeks now, I'm playing with Smartphone-navigation (like amy others) and yesterday got it finally working with my Motorola MPx220 after I tweaked it a little bit to work with my Bluetooth GPS receiver and I'm completely impressed. 8O

Pocket PC navigation is already mature enough to may replace car navigation systems sooner or later; on the other hand the Pocket PC will never reach such a penetration as we have it with mobile phones already and therefore Smartphone navigation becomes even more interesting!

BEING MOBILE: Here I am again to experience another mobile moment
Posted by Carlo Guerrero - at 21:41 CET under 09 - Thoughts

Work this time brings me to Hong Kng and China. I'll be going with a friend to scout out new products in Hong Kong and China. I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for new stuff and if I do come along some new Windows Mobile powered stuff... I'm sure I'll be posting it here.

When I get back, I think I have about half a dozen reviews of stuff to post. I have not been able to do so since I have been quite busy with work. Both my jobs as a photographer and as a consultant. Well, things are pretty bright on the Windows Mobile side. It might be a bit quiet, but I'm sure there will be more exciting things coming our way.

THOUGHT: Mobile Media day at PPCW.Net
Posted by Arne Hess - at 12:59 CET under 09 - Thoughts

As I said before, yesterday wasn't that bad at all, beside I met the police the whole day. Because I received two packages: one from Microsoft which was my MVP pack and one from my fellow MVP Steven (I love it if FedEx shipps faster than expected, at least I received it two days earlier than estimated).
While I knew what Steven's package should contain - the "Creative Zen Portable Media Center Edition", for my surprise the MVP package also contained a mobile media gadget, a "Creative MuVo TX" MP3 player.
Holy cow - how many portable media players does a single geek needs? ;-)

THOUGHT: First speed trapped, than caught with the the mobile phone
Posted by Arne Hess - at 20:42 CET under 09 - Thoughts

Hmmm... How often can you be caught by the police the same day?
This morning, when I drove through Munich, I drove into a speed trap. It was one of them you haven't seen before because they 'shot' you with the laser gun.
I wouldn't say I was too fast if you know the "Verdi Strasse" in Munich but well, fast enough that I have to pay around 50 Euro and I will get one point in "Flensburg" (Germans know what I mean). That's what I call a bad start into the day... :x

THOUGHT: Creative Zen Portable Media Center on the way
Posted by Arne Hess - at 14:54 CET under 09 - Thoughts

For a couple of weeks, Microsoft's Portable Media Centers are available for sale in the U.S. and when it was announced earlier, I've tried to order a Creative Zen from Amazon. Unfortunately, Amazon isn't shipping this device too Germany but thanks to my fellow MVP Steve from, I've place my order through him and recently he received the device which he forwarded immediately too me.
Right now, it's in customs in Frankfurt and delivery date is expected for October, 6.
