REVIEW: Motorola Charging & Synchronisation Station for MPx220
Posted by Arne Hess - at 18:26 CET under 08 - Reviews

Do you remember my previous rant about how much I miss a cradle for most modern Smartphones (like the i-mate SP3i or the Motorola MPx220) and Pocket PCs (like the i-mate JAM)?

However, thankfully either the accessory industry has fitting cradles in portfolio or the device OEM himself. Last week I've received - thanks to Motorola - the appropriate cradle for the MPx220 Smartphone which is, nevertheless a universal cradle for many Motorola devices, from E100 to MPx220 to V500/600. However, it can not be used for the Motorola MPx Pocket PC Phone Edition as the blister-pack says:

REVIEW: The benefit of QVGA (320 x 240) screens for Windows Mobile Smartphones
Posted by Arne Hess - at 15:41 CET under 08 - Reviews

Since the introduction of Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, also Microsoft's Smartphone version supports an increased screen resolution than the originally introduced 220 x 176 pixel display. However, so far everything was theory because phones with the supported QVGA format (320 x 240 which is also used by most of today's Pocket PCs) aren't commercially in the market yet.
Nevertheless, we can expect them soon because two phones (the SDA II and SDA II Music) were announced by T-Mobile last week as well as some information of a new Orange Smartphone (so called SPV C550) leaked some weeks ago. All three devices are expected to support QVGA - finally.

CEBIT LIVE: Moblogging meets Siemens
Posted by Arne Hess - at 12:52 CET under 01 - General News

Seems there is a new trend to give the customers a new reason to buy cameraphones: moblogging! After O2 Germany, who launched his Moblog last week, now Siemens is showing-off a Moblog solution at CeBIT where they partner with 20six.

However, unlike the MMS-based O2 solution, Siemens is showing its new CX 75 mobile phone which includes a Java application. This application lets you select the category to post to, provides you an article title and body prompt and allows you to take a picture right from the application to post it then via GPRS to your personal Moblog:

Anyway - I'm happy to present you here the first pictures of T-Mobile's latest Windows Mobile Smartphone developments: the SDA II Music with 1.3 Megapixel camera and the SDA II without camera:

CEBIT LIVE: T-Mobile and Vodafone showing the HTC Universal
Posted by Arne Hess - at 12:53 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

The HTC Universal aka T-Mobile MDA IV and Vodafone VP IV caught a lot of interest during the past weeks since T-Mobile announced it first. It was publicly shown first time in Cannes at the 3GSM congress last month however it was behind glass and without much information. Now, at least T-Mobile, shows a "running" version (which is basically a Flash presentation only). However, they also present it open, closed, converted, etc. on their stand so it's worth to see anyway - even if you can not "play" with it. ;-)

CEBIT LIVE: Samsung SGH-I300 Windows Mobile Smartphone

I just came back from the Samsung stand where I spent plenty of time by playing with the Samsung SGH-I300 aka "Thor" and I have to admit I'm impressed. It's a pretty huge candybar design (as long as the HTC Magician aka i-mate JAM) but unlike the Magician it's running the Smartphone not Pocket PC Phone Edition Windows Mobile version.

REVIEW: Think Outside Stowaway Universal Bluetooth Keyboard for Smartphone
Posted by Arne Hess - at 14:21 CET under 08 - Reviews

For some days now, Think Outside is publicly offering the Windows Mobile drivers for their Stowaway Universal Bluetooth keyboard and even if it sounds a kind of weird to use a Smartphone with an external keyboard, there are some good reasons to do so.

The Think Outside Stowaway Universal Bluetooth keyboard combines some of the most favorite technologies I prefer to use and therefore it is even more interesting for me to use it: Bluetooth (the technology I believe into to connect devices) and Think Outside's award winning foldable design which makes their keyboards so handy.
