MESSAGING: Rogers Wireless and Visto launch MyMail push E-Mail solution in Canada incl. Smartphone support

Rogers Wireless Inc. and Visto Corporation today announced the availability of MyMail: a new wireless service that provides instantaneous, two-way push E-Mail, calendar and contacts to a customer's wireless device of choice.
By simply downloading the MyMail application over the air to any MyMail supported wireless device, consumers and businesses using ISP E-Mail (also known as POP / IMAP or Internet E-Mail) will immediately be able to receive, send and synchronize their E-Mail while away from their desk. Account activation and service setup can be completed directly from the device by visiting www.mymail.rogers.com. All that is required is a valid Data Service Plan from Rogers Wireless along with the E-Mail address and password - MyMail takes care of the rest.

Not many mobile phones have been touted as "iPod killers", maybe the first one was be the HTC Magician (i-mate JAM, Xda mini) which has a similar shape but misses the hard disk, the other one might be the Samsung SGH-i300 which is a Windows Mobile Smartphone and includes a 3 GB HDD.
However, today's announced Nokia N91 combines a mobile phone with a 4-gigabyte hard disk to create a portable music player with room for up to 3000 songs and supports MP3, M4A, AAC and WMA.

Option N.V. today announced the GlobeTrotter EDGE the latest addition to its comprehensive range of wireless data cards. The GlobeTrotter EDGE, which delivers connection speeds up to four times faster than on GPRS networks, will be commercially available as of next month. Option will commence shipping volumes of the GlobeTrotter EDGE product in accordance with the commercial roll-out plans by different network operators.

SERVICE: Skype VoIP to be ported to mobile phones during this year

As MobileMag reports, Skype Technologies announced at the Voice On the Net (VON)
conference in Toronto, that a mobile version for smart phone will be available
this year.
Skype is a free global telephony application that allows for VoIP
communications, it currently runs on Mac OSX, Windows and Pocket PC, Skype plans
to release a version for Embedded Linux, Symbian or Windows Mobile devices later
this year.

Vodafone yesterday announced the roll out of push E-Mail, a service providing real-time,
secure and remote access to E-Mail, contacts and calendar direct to a range of
business-focused mobile devices.
New E-Mail, calendar appointments and contact details are automatically 'pushed' to the customer's selected device and updates
made on the device are automatically reflected on the customer's PC. In
addition, customers can choose to download E-Mail attachments in popular office
formats, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe PDF.
