COMPATIBILITY: mNotes 4.1 works fine with Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC
Posted by Arne Hess - at 20:12 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

During the past weeks I got a couple of E-Mails from the::unwired readers as well as from friends and co-workers if there is a solution which syncs Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PCs with Lotus Notes.
In many corporate environments, Lotus Notes is used instead of Outlook and therefore ActiveSync (even if required to establish a synchronization channel between the PC and the Pocket PC) is not synching the Lotus Notes calendar, contacts, inbox or tasklist.
In the past, many users used "Cadenza" from CommonTime to get Windows Mobile devices synced with the PC local but since the release of Windows Mobile 5.0 it was unclear if mNotes (the new name of Cadenza) still works with Microsoft's latest Windows Mobile version and it does!

If you already use a Windows Mobile 5.0 device, you might have noticed that it misses Microsoft Reader. This is because the former Microsoft Reader version wasn't Windows Mobile 5.0 compatible. However, now Microsoft has released a new Reader version which is compatible to all Pocket PC versions > 2002 and also includes support for Windows Mobile 5.0.

This update addresses activation problems experienced by the users of some Phone Edition devices. In addition Microsoft has made it easier to use Microsoft Reader with device storage cards.

CONFIRMED: Microsoft to release OneNote for Windows Mobile Smartphones
Posted by Arne Hess - at 14:10 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

What was just a rumor earlier this month got an official confirmation from (a) Microsoft (employee, namely Chris_Pratley, in his blog).
While OneNote is part of the Microsoft Office system, it's also available as stand-alone product. On PCs, OneNote is an application for better note taking and research gathering. From meeting notes to Web content, sound bites to action points, simply collate all the information you need in one place for easy access and is way richer that Outlook's Note application.

The idea of OneNote for Windows Mobile is to port this experience on Smartphones (and Smartphones only today):

UPGRADE: Xetra xBar 3.0 for Windows Mobile Smartphone released
Posted by Arne Hess - at 11:14 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

My all-time favorite Smartphone application (together with SmartphoneNotes) xBar got a refresh from Xetra and is available in version 3.0 now.
xBar is a task-switcher and -manager as well as a thermometer for your Windows Mobile Smartphones and gives you the full power of its multitasking capabilities. In my opinion one of the "must have" apps for Smartphones.

xBar 3 is code-signed and therefore fully compatible with Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphone as well as it supports QVGA for Smartphones now (like the Samsung SGH-i300 or Orange C600) as well as VGA for Pocket PC (like the O2 Xda Exec) because v3 was also re-released for Pocket PCs.

UPDATE: O2 Germany's Xda mini Limited Edition is based on the HTC Magician
Posted by Arne Hess - at 21:55 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Today I've received the confirmation, that the earlier revealed Xda mini "Limited Edition" isn't based on the HTC Charmer but on the HTC Magician and therefore it's the same device as the "standard" Xda mini, just the case colors changed for the "Limited Edition"-version (which isn't that bad anyway).
If you wonder about the "Start" and "Ok" buttons, the device has in the flyer, it's just because it was an early sample which was used for the photo-shooting.
Not clear yet is, if the Limited Edition will sporting these Start/Ok buttons or if it will comes with the standard Calendar/Contacts button-set.

Posted by Arne Hess - at 19:53 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Also in today's shop-flyer, (valid from today until 30.11.) O2 Germany has given an outlook for more devices which will be released before Christmas and one of them is the O2 Xda mini "Limited Edition" in black and iceblue (two completely new colors I've never seen before with an HTC Magician).
While O2 hasn't revealed anymore features (so it's not clear if it is still the HTC Magician or maybe the HTC Charmer) it's only clear that it isn't the Xda Atom.
Nevertheless O2 is continuing with the current mini ID but sporting the two new "trend" colors:

However, unlike T-Mobile, O2 and E-Plus which are carrying the (rounder) "Prodigy" ID of the Wizard, it looks like Vodafone Germany has chosen the (squared) "Wizard" ID which will go on sale as "VPA compact II" (not to be confused with T-Mobile's MDA compact II which is a completely different device).
