3GSM LIVE: German T-Mobile MDA Mail users will not get Windows Mobile 6
Posted by Arne Hess - at 15:33 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

As T-Mobile Germany just confirmed me, the carrier has no plans yet to release a Windows Mobile 6 ROM update for it's recently announced T-Mobile MDA Mail.
This makes me a kind of wonder since the T-Mobile MDA Mail is based on HTC's Excalibur reference design which the T-Mobile Dash is also based on.
However, contrary to the statement from T-Mobile "Europe", T-Mobile USA announced on Monday to release a free Windows Mobile 6 update later this year.

3GSM LIVE: Samsung has no further plans to release the SGH-i310
Posted by Arne Hess - at 09:43 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Since it was unveiled first time, during last year's CeBIT, it became silent about Samsung's Windows Mobile-based music device, the SGH-i310 (an updated follower of the initially launched SGH-i300) and yesterday, Samsung confirmed that it wont be released in most Western European markets anymore. While this doesn't means, that the i310 is completely discontinued, it means that the 8 GB HDD Windows Mobile Smartphone isn't planned to be released in Germany, UK, France, etc. anymore but there are good chances that you might still see it in Russia or even Italy (but nothing is confirmed yet).

After a longer time of Windows Mobile absence, it looks like Toshiba jumps back into the game but this time with a Windows Mobile powered Smartphone (or as it is called now a Windows Mobile Standard device). At least that's what the FCC recently unveiled.

Other features, according to the FCC are: HSDPA, a 65k color screen, 2 megapixel camera and Bluetooth with A2DP support:

MARKETING: HTC launches Viral Marketing Campaign for the upcoming HTC X7500
Posted by Arne Hess - at 12:37 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Pretty funny - last week I've received an anonymous E-Mail (like most webmasters received I think) which pointed me to a link at YouTube:

There has been loads of stuff about the HTC Athene online but I have just come across this clip on youtube. Seems to be showing you the product & it appears the name will not be Athena as I have read to date. looks much better than the silver version I've seen on line.

And as it turned out, this is a viral marketing campaign, HTC started for its own version of the HTC Athena, the HTC X7500 Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition Professional smartphone.

CUSTOMIZATION: Spb Software House unveils Spb Mobile Shell for Pocket PC
Posted by Arne Hess - at 15:47 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

The Microsoft Windows Mobile Pocket PC user interface has not been significantly changed for the last six years, since the Pocket PC platform was introduced in April 2001. Originally the Pocket PC was a PDA designed for stylus navigation and long but infrequent periods of general use. It has since evolved into many things, including a phone. Along the way, though the people who use a Pocket PC and the tasks it is made to perform have changed, the main interface has not. The development goal of Spb Mobile Shell was to close this gap between the old Pocket PC interface and one people should expect from such a smart, modern and powerful device today.
