UNVEILED: Samsung SGH-i620 Windows Mobile Standard Smartphone shows its face [UPDATE]

No, the Samsung SGH-i620 isn't available yet nor it was announced so far but some carriers hinted its existence already. And now, UK-based website Mobile Gazette posted the first photos and draft specifications of this smart QWERTY slider which is definitely following the SGH-i600 philosophy.
While not too much is known yet, Mobile Gazette says, the i620 will be a triband (only) GSM/GPRS/EDGE phone as well as supporting UMTS (supported bands are unknown), featuring two cameras (one with 2 megapixel and photo light). It's expected to be powered by Windows Mobile 6 and closed, the phone measures something around 59 mm width and 94 mm height while opened it's 131 mm:

ENHANCEMENT: Dopod International introduces BlackBerry Connect v4.0 across Asia

LINK: The Boy Genius Report unboxes the HTC Kaiser Windows Mobile Professional Smartphone

Even not yet officially announced by HTC or its partners, the guys from "The Boy Genius Report" managed to get a HTC Kaiser Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition into their hands.
The Kaiser, which is basically the follower of HTC's Hermes Pocket PC Phone Edition, for sure features Windows Mobile 6 Professional as well as quadband GSM/GPRS/HSDPA, Bluetooth 2.0 and WiFi b/g. So far everything the Hermes has as well.
New for the Kaiser are: HSUPA (High Speed Upload Packet Access), GPS as well as a 3 megapixel autofocus camera (most likely the same as used for the HTC Athena). ACCESSORY: Samsung now ships the SGH-i600 with Extended Battery

Bad luck for (us) early adopters in Europe. As Samsung confirmed the::unwired, from now all (new) retail packages of the (vanilla) Samsung SGH-i600 Windows Mobile Smartphone will include a standard and an extended battery - not just two standard batteries as in the original configuration.
This is similar to the bundle as available from Orange; the British carrier was selling its version of the i600 with both batteries (and chargers) right from the start.

CONFIRMED: Vodafone UK to release the HTC Vox as Vodafone v1415 [UPDATE]

Together with today's official announcement from Vodafone Germany, now also Vodafone UK lists the - by Vodafone Germany already released - Vodafone VDA V as Vodafone v1415. However, unlike the German version, the UK version of the HTC Vox isn't available yet but announced as "coming soon". This delay accrues because Orange has a launch exclusivity for its Orange SPV E650 which was launched earlier this year.

UPGRADE: Samsung to provide free Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for the SGH-i600

Not that it is officially announced yet but it looks like Samsung SGH-i600 owners will get the Windows Mobile 6 love from Samsung as well, after Cingular/AT&T and Samsung America have announced the upgrade for the BlackJack/SGH-i607 a while ago already.
Stephan Schmidt of Smartphone-Web just received an E-Mail from the German customer care where the i600 Windows Mobile 6 upgrade was confirmed.
While Samsung Germany has given the link for the upgrade already, a release date wasn't given so far.

UNVEILED: O2 Germany to provide Windows Mobile 6 upgrades for the Xda orbit and trion

Following O2 Germany's earlier CeBIT announcement to release its version of the HTC Herald as Xda terra with Windows Mobile 6 straight away, the German carrier now unveiled on its website that it plans to release free Windows Mobile 6 Professional upgrades for its Xda orbit (HTC Artemis) and Xda trion (HTC Hermes) as well.
Both upgrades are not yet available as download but announced as: "The Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 update for the Xda orbit/Xda trion will be available shortly from this website".
O2 Germany hasn't announced any upgrade plans for their current line of Xda Windows Mobile devices so it's a kind of surprise to find the information on the site already:

Following HTC's and Orange's earlier S710 and SPV E650 launch, now also Vodafone Germany followed with the launch of its version of the HTC Vox which Vodafone Germany calls VDA V.
There is not too much to say about the VDA V anymore since most of us know the HTC Vox anyway - but to recall some highlights - the VDA V is a Windows Mobile 6 Standard smartphone, powered by a TI OMAP CPU at 200 MHz. The device features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth and WiFi and its absolutely unique highlight is the slide-out keyboard for easy text entry. STATEMENT: Microsoft promises Windows Vista WMDC sync fix

Following Smartphone Thoughts earlier finding, that Windows XP PCs with ActiveSync can sync files with Windows Mobile Standard smartphones while Windows Vista PCs with Windows Mobile Device Center cannot sync files, Microsoft has given now an official statement.
According to Brighthand, Microsoft is aware that Windows Mobile 6 users can synchronize files between PCs and smartphones with Active Sync 4.5 only but the Redmond-based software giant will update Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) on Windows Vista PCs to support file synchronization with Windows Mobile 6 by mid-June.

FINDING: Windows Mobile 6 Standard supports file synchronization - a kind of

While Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs supports file synchronization since its introduction as Pocket PC back in April 2000, so far Smartphone users were left in the dust with file synchronization. First Microsoft said there is no need for file synchronization because Smartphones, or how they are called now, Windows Mobile 6 Standard devices doesn't support Office Mobile and therefore sync wouldn't makes sense but after Microsoft realized that snapped photos and recorded videos are better synchronized and therefore added a media sync-feature to Microsoft's Vista Windows Mobile Device Center.

ANNOUNCED: Motorola announced the MOTO Q 9 again and renames the Q q gsm

Following Motorola's announcements from the 3GSM World Congress back in February, the company announced its UMTS/HSDPA version of the MOTO Q again and renamed the also earlier announced MOTO Q  q gsm.
The previously known MOTO Q q gsm (see the::unwired's hands-on here) is now called MOTO Q 8, and basically it's the GSM version of the original award-winning CDMA-based MOTO Q.
The MOTO Q 9 (which was also called MOTO Q 9h) is Motorola's UMTS/HSDPA version of the device above (see the::unwired's hands-on here) and based on Windows Mobile 6. The inbuilt HSDPA/UMTS engine allows downloads up to 3.6Mbps.

AVAILABLE: E-Ten releases Glofiish X500 and M700 Windows Mobile 6 Upgrades [UPDATE]

The awaited Windows Mobile 6 ROM upgrades from E-Ten are here - already. The Taiwanese ODM recently made the upgrades available for its latest Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC Phone Editions (namely the Glofiish X500 and the Glofiish M700) to make them Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphones after the upgrade.
The ROMs are available in three languages: English, French and Russian. To get access to the downloads, you have to register your Glofiish X500 or M700 first. After you get send an, so called "Action Key" sent by E-Mail you have to enter with your IMEI number to start the download.

PATCH: HTC released microSD Card fix for the HTC Artemis

Basically all version of the HTC Artemis (doesn't matter if from HTC, O2 or others) have the same problem - something is wrong with the way the device handles files and folders on the microSD card. Sometimes the device shows incorrect file or folder names when displaying the micoSD card contents and some users even reported, that all files on the device got corrupt.
However, finally HTC has released an improved SD card handling mechanism to fit this problem. The download is available to all customers but only customers with the HTC Artemis needs to install it! Other HTC devices are not affected by this bug!

AT&T Inc. announced today the availability of a re-branded and upgraded version of its popular Cingular 8525 (aka HTC Hermes) - the AT&T 8525 Pocket PC - boasting additional services that will appeal to business customers and consumers alike but still missing Windows Mobile 6. CANCELED: HP has no plans to provide Windows Mobile 6 upgrades for its current iPAQs

Bad news reached us from HP this morning. According to an article at CNET Asia, HP - the "Grand Dame" of Pocket PCs - has no plans to provide Windows Mobile 6 upgrades for their current line of Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, namely the HP iPAQ hw6900, iPAQ rw6800, iPAQ rx4000 and rx5000 series.
The computer giant cited "the potential for long delays, as well as possible carry-over costs" to its customers as reasons for this decision. Beside not offering any upgrades for existing customers, HP will also continues to offer these devices with Windows Mobile 5.0 only.

ANNOUNCED: O2 Asia to offer free Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for the Xda Atom Life

According to a report at CNET Asia, O2 Asia has recently announced a Windows Mobile upgrade for its O2 Xda Atom Life Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition, the UMTS successor of the O2 Xda Atom (which is currently on sale in Asia-Pacific only). This is O2 Asia's first announced Windows Mobile 6 upgrade.
The free upgrade will be available from May 12 to all current Xda Atom Life users and will be available either as a download for a self-upgrade or by getting it from one of O2 Asia's service centers.
Furthermore, all Xda Atom Life sold in stores from June onwards will be preloaded with Windows Mobile 6 already.

WORKAROUND: Get Office Mobile working on Windows Mobile 5 Smartphones

One of the great benefits of Windows Mobile 6 Standard (you know, formerly known as Windows Mobile Smartphone) over previous Windows Mobile Smartphone versions is the fact, that Windows Mobile 6 natively includes Office Mobile (including Word Mobile, Excel Mobile and PowerPoint Mobile) as seen on Pocket PCs before only. This means that you can open and edit Office files (creating new ones is possible with a workaround only but this is a different story) as well as saving the changes. However, Office Mobile is designed for Windows Mobile 6 Standard only and not available as a separate download.

Finally, if you was brave enough to wait for the official release of T-Mobile's Windows Mobile 6 Standard upgrade for the T-Mobile Dash, you can fire up your browser now to officially download the ROM upgrade from T-Mobile's website.
As with all Windows Mobile update or upgrades, also this upgrade wipes all your data so make sure to backup everything before you start:

UNVEILED: Gigabyte announces new Windows Mobile 6 GPS-enabled Smartphone

Gigabyte Communications recently launched a new Windows Mobile smartphone - the GSmart i300. Powered by a Marvell PXA270 CPU at 520 MHz, in the Chinese version the the i300 sports Windows Mobile 6 Professional (already), triband GSM/GPRS as well as Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WiFi b/g and mini USB 2.0! The 256 MB of ROM and 64 MB of RAM can be extended by miniSD flash memory cards.
Other highlights are the 2.1 megapixel camera with macro function and digital zoom and the inbuilt SiRF Star III GPS receiver.

ANNOUNCED: T-Mobile Dash first in U.S. to offer Windows Mobile 6 from May 4

T-Mobile USA today announced and confirmed that T-Mobile Dash customers will be the first in the U.S. to download and experience the benefits of the new Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 software. Starting tomorrow, May 4, T-Mobile Dash customers can upgrade from Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6 via a free desktop download available directly from T-Mobile (you remember - the previously leaked one).
Designed by HTC and available exclusively from T-Mobile, the T-Mobile Dash is the first device in the U.S. to be powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 6, offering faster access to contacts; the ability to view and edit Microsoft Office documents; even richer Web, E-Mail and messaging experiences; and access to Microsoft Windows Live for Windows Mobile - a set of Windows Live services - uniquely designed to work with Windows Mobile-powered devices, such as the T-Mobile Dash.

ANNOUNCED: O2 UK launches the O2 Xda Argon Pocket PC Phone Edition

Do you remember the mostly unknown HTC Panda I wrote about earlier? As it turned out today, it's O2 UK's new Xda Argon - a Windows Mobile 5.0-based Pocket PC Phone Edition which clearly follows in the tradition of the O2 Xda IIi (aka HTC Himalaya).
Looks like it's nothing special except the large 3.5" touchscreen and the two megapixel camera.
All the rest is pretty basic - including GSM and GPRS (no UMTS not to talk about HSDPA), WiFi and Bluetooth and - unfortunately - Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC Phone Edition only:

ANNOUNCED: Vodafone Italy lists the Motorola MOTO Q 9h

Looks like Vodafone Italy is the first carrier which confirms to carry Motorola latest MOTO Q Windows Mobile smartphone, the MOTO Q9h (see the::unwired's photo view here).
It's now listed on Vodafone's business site - even if it isn't available for order yet (at least I haven't found an order button). Anyway - the Motorola MOTO Q 9h, which was announced during the 3GSM World Congress back in February, is Motorola's long awaited UMTS version of its MOTO Q bestseller. Sporting quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA and Bluetooth, the Windows Mobile 6 Standard smartphone also features a 2 megapixel camera while the front facing camera for UMTS video telephony was left as well as WiFi was left:
