APPROVED: FCC unveils the HTC Phoebus Windows Mobile Smartphone
Posted by Arne Hess - at 16:47 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

The beloved FCC just unveiled the HTC Phoebus without giving any further details. But anyway, we know what HTC's Phoebus is - it's yesterday's unveiled Dopod C750 aka the rumored T-Mobile Juno and since the device just received the FCC approval now, there are some real chances now, that T-Mobile US will indeed launch the HTC Phoebus/Dopod C750/T-Mobile Juno (however you want to call it) soon.
On the left the Dopod C750, on the right the HTC Phoebus:

RECEIVED: Palm Treo 500v Windows Mobile Smartphone arrived at the::unwired
Posted by Arne Hess - at 14:46 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Nice, Palm's PR agency just sent over a brand new Palm Treo 500v Windows Mobile smartphone which Palm announced two weeks ago with Vodafone.
While I've just got it 10 minutes ago, soon I will be able to answer your questions (you can ask in the comments bellow). The Palm Treo 500v smartphone runs on a Windows Mobile 6 Standard platform and has a full QWERTY (in this case the German QWERTZ) keyboard, QVGA screen and supports triband GSM/GPRS with 900/1800/199 MHz and singleband UMTS with 2100 MHz (no HSDPA). Furthermore it supports Bluetooth 2.0+EDR but not WiFi:

UNVEILED: Dopod C750 shows its face - an indication for T-Mobile's HTC Juno?
Posted by Arne Hess - at 08:59 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Not too much is known about this smartphone which is called Dopod C750, except that it looks like the previously rumored HTC Juno which is expected to be released by T-Mobile U.S.. It's running Windows Mobile 6 Standard, this is clear, but, according to the original source, it's also sporting a VGA screen at 480 x 640 pixel (as far as I know it's the first Windows Mobile Standard phone with VGA).
Furthermore it seems confirmed that the slide-out keyboard is this kind of BlackBerry-like "SureType" keypad we have seen on the T-Mobile Juno rendering before:

UNVEILED: Bluetooth SIG unveils the HTC Kii Windows Mobile Smartphone
Posted by Arne Hess - at 14:36 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) just unveiled another so far unknown HTC smartphone, the "HTC Kii" which must be - according to the Bluetooth SIG documents - a non-touch screen Windows Mobile Standard smartphone (because it is listed as a "Smart Phone", like the HTC Breeze or HTC Vox).
Basically nothing else is known about the device but since it's from HTC it can be expected to sport any version of Windows Mobile Standard and it's confirmed that the HTC Kii supports Bluetooth 2.0+EDR:

UNCOVERED: Samsung SGH-i640 Windows Mobile Smartphone shows its Face and Specs
Posted by Arne Hess - at 12:47 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Unveiled with the Vodafone Christmas line-up announcement, not too much was known about Vodafone's new co-branded Samsung SGH-i640v Windows Mobile 6 Standard Smartphone, which looks like a design-upgrade to the Samsung SGH-i620.
However, it seems the i640 is far more than just a design-upgraded i620 since it is expected to sport features, the i620 was badly missing, including WiFi and even GPS! And it's sporting Vodafone's new Home screen implementation we have seen on the Palm Treo 500v before already.

Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:23 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Just in time with my review of the German version of the O2 Xda Atom Life, CNet Asia compared O2's latest working horse with HTC's (not yet anywhere outside APAC announced or released) Windows Mobile 6 upgraded P3600i.
CNet Asia's judges are Senior writer Damian Koh who doesn't understand what the hype about the Apple iPhone is about, but heck, if it looks good, it must be good. And senior writer John Chan who loves QWERTY keyboards because he claims having one makes typing messages faster:

UNVEILED: Is Samsung releasing a BlackJack look-alike Pocket PC Phone Edition? [UPDATE]
Posted by Arne Hess - at 19:47 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Pocket PC Thoughts has spotted a YouTube video which shows a demo of a Treo 750-like Samsung Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone, recorded during the Gitex earlier this month.
While one of the highlighted features is a navigable mouse pointer controlled by some "scroller" mechanism underneath the screen, I can see even more interesting features:
It's sporting the Orange typical Home screen design (should this be an indication that Orange is going to launch this unknown beauty?) and furthermore the touch screen is plain to the housing (think of a HTC Touch) which makes this device looking like a non-touch screen device (on the first sight):

Not that the Treo 750 is Palm's latest Windows Mobile smartphone but someone in Canada made everything right. Instead of launching the Palm Treo 750 with the initial Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition version, Rogers just launched it with Windows Mobile 6 Professional and enabled HSDPA support.
It offers broadband-like download speeds and global roaming capabilities on a color touch-screen that replicates desktop applications to make navigating online and through multiple applications quick and easy while on the go.

MESSAGING: Textr turns SMS into threaded conversations
Posted by Arne Hess - at 08:49 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Ok fellow Treo 750 lovers, you are not the only one with threaded SMS messages anymore. Looks like MykeSoft was so impressed by this application that Myke developed Textr for Windows Mobile Pocket PC phones. It's a Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6 compatible application which turns SMS text messages into organized chat-like conversations, similar to the beloved default SMS client on the Treo (but with enhanced and added features and goodies). Since many users out there found Treo's 750 threaded SMS application so useful (which it is indeed), you might want to give it a try on your non Palm Treo Windows Mobile phone as well.

I was searching for Windows Mobile accessories this morning and stumbled across a massive discount at Expansys. There you can get the pink HTC Qtek 8500 Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone for £99.95 only. Not a bad price for a stylish Smartphone.
While the Qtek 8500 isn't the newest Windows Mobile phone anymore (it was introduce back in May last year), at least it's running Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone (but there is no Windows Mobile 6 upgrade planned) and it can be counted as one of the most stylish Windows Mobile Smartphones so far (even if the pink might not be everyone's choice):

It's not a Bird, it's not a Plane, it's the Palm Treo 500 we knew so far as the Treo 800w. Looks like someone at Dutch retailer The Phone House was too excited about Palm's rumored and (most likely) soon to be released Windows Mobile smartphone that it was unveiled already.
While the specs a still a little bit blurry, the photo isn't blurry anymore and it shows the same device we've seen month ago already. Featuring Windows Mobile 6 Standard, the Palm Treo 500 is indeed Palm's first non-touch screen smartphone but still sporting a QWERTY keyboard for easy text entry:

UNVEILED: Vodafone Global previews the Vodafone 920 Windows Mobile Smartphone [UPDATE]
Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:32 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Okay, now that's an interesting device which I have no further information about yet, it was even not mentioned in today's Vodafone Global's press release but it only appears in the photo archive. Anyway - one thing is clear - it's a Windows Mobile Standard smartphone but I have no idea who the manufacture is (since it's a Vodafone branded device only). Also Vodafone hasn't given any further device details so we are left a little bit clueless now.
But what I can say from the image bellow is, that Vodafone's latest (and first) Windows Mobile slider smartphone looks gorgeous:

Basically nothing is known about the device (even Samsung hasn't announced it so far) except that it looks like a design-upgraded version of the Samsung SGH-i620 Windows Mobile slider smartphones.
Since it seems to be an upgraded version of the i620, Windows Mobile 6 Standard is most likely but everything else is in the dust yet. Nevertheless, the new design looks definitely stylish:

We've met the Pantech C810 just recently but it looks like it's already available. Amazon.com lists it as an AT&T device already.
While Amazon.com isn't giving too much information it's clear that Pantech's latest Windows Mobile device features Windows Mobile 6 Standard (so it's a Smartphone without touch screen) and that the C810 features UMTS (and most likely HSDPA). It's not yet clear if and which GSM bands are supported nor it's clear which UMTS bands are supported but anyway, the idea of the dual-slider design is quite nice:

Feature-wise the Ultimate 8150 seems to be an interesting Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone but I'm not sure if I like the design. It looks a little bit too techie and I don't like the position of the joystick:

We have seen the O2 Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone code-named "Helen" first time back in June and as the FCC recently unveiled, it's now called "O2 Xda Denim".
Manufactured by Taiwanese Gigabyte, the Xda Denim is O2's latest Windows Mobile smartphone, featuring Windows Mobile 6 Professional and therefore sports a 2.6" touch screen, displaying 65K colors at 240 x 320 pixel. Even more interesting is the slider design and the location of the D-Pad. The 12 key phone pad is between the screen (top) and D-Pad (bottom) and hides if closed which seems to make this device pretty compact:
