Hello,
happy new year and welcome back at the::unwired. Hope you moved well into 2008
too? I was off the past days, spending the New Year's Eve with my girlfriend in
Paris. Now I'm back on duty and looking forward an hopefully exciting year 2008.
At least there is one reason why 2008 is exciting for me: Thanks to all its
direct forerunner, the::unwired turns 10 this year!
Everything started with my first Windows CE site back in 1998 which was called
"Arne's WindowsCE & GSM Page". Later (in 1999), Arne's WindowsCE & GSM Page was
renamed to "MobileNET.de" (as well as it got a new domain). MobileNET.de became
the place where I provided soft- and hardware reviews as well as tips and tricks
as I did before at Arne's WindowsCE & GSM Page and as the::unwired provides
today. Parallel to MobileNET.de (or better a little bit later, in 2000), I
launched "Unwired-I.Net", my personal mobile data and Windows Mobile diary (at a
time when blogging wasn't common at all) where I posted hard- and software news
as well as I published my thoughts about a mobile data world. However,
maintaining two sites with nearly the same focus wasn't useful at all which was
the reason why I merged both sites into "Pocket PC Writer.Net" in 2001. Since
Pocket PC Writer.Net was a way too long name (and URL to enter on mobile
devices), the site was renamed later into "PPCW.Net" which was the direct
forerunner to today's the::unwired which launched in 2005. And here we are - 10
years later. Happy birthday the::unwired!
