ALERT: WinCE/InfoJack sends unauthorized information and leaves device vulnerable
Posted by Arne Hess - at 13:55 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

McAfee Avert Labs Blog posted a warning about a new Windows Mobile Pocket PC virus yesterday which seems to be the first real Windows Mobile virus/trojan. While we have seen proof of concepts before, this Windows Mobile trojan for Pocket PCs disables Windows Mobile application installation security as well as it protects itself from deletion by copying and installing it again from infected memory cards.
Furthermore, the virus which is called "WinCE/InfoJack" sends the infected device's serial number, operating system and other information to the author of the trojan.

UTILITY: Google2Go! gives you access to all Google Mobile Services
Posted by Arne Hess - at 19:35 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

The Tech Turf recently released a handy Windows Mobile Classic and Professional (touchscreen) application called "Google2Go!".
Google2Go! is a mobile application for Google's mobile services, similar to Yahoo! Go. And, as you can see by the used icons, this application is not related to Google in any way (neither to Apple as I think) and frankly, while this looks like a handy application, I'm a little bit lost with the used icons (and would rather prefer the original Google icons) since - well - I'm not an iPhone user (what does the sunflower stands for?).

QUALITY: HP might suspend its cooperation with Inventec due to Quality issues
Posted by Arne Hess - at 17:33 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

According to DigiTimes, Hewlett-Packard (HP) may suspend its cooperation with Inventec Appliances as the Taiwanese ODM has repeatedly delayed shipments of the iPAQ 600-series smartphone to the US vendor.
Interesting enough, the iPAQ 600-line is still expected to be released in Europe, later this spring - together with the also delayed iPAQ 900 Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone - while a U.S. launch seems to be canceled.
According to the Chinese-language Commercial Times, one reason for the cancelation is, that the the first series of 3.5G handsets undertaken by Inventec Appliances failed to pass tests carried out by HP.

DEVELOPMENT: Firefox Mobile receives another Proposal - Work in Progress
Posted by Arne Hess - at 16:32 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Following the first proposal, the developers of Firefox Mobile/Mozilla Mobile (the final name is still not decided) have posted another proposal of how the mobile version of Firefox could looks and works. While the first proposal also included information about a touchscreen-less UI, this proposal concentrates on touchscreen smartphones only (like Windows Mobile Classic PDAs and Windows Mobile Professional smartphones). Even if still in an early phase of discussion, the mockups and described functions looks quite promising already and if a Mobile Firefox will ever be released, it's quite foreseeable that we will relive another "browser-war", as we have seen it on the PC in the mid-90's but this time it will happens on mobile devices. Also it's unlikely that this time Microsoft will join the party (an possibly win), except something is cooking in Redmond nobody is aware of yet, but Mozilla, with its Firefox Mobile, and Opera Software, with its soon to be released Opera Mobile 9.5, will be the actors.

FUN: No - the HTC Magnum Windows Mobile "Smartphone" isn't real

You might have read about a new, so far unknown Windows Mobile "Pocket" PC called HTC Magnum  during the past hours and no - even if it was well made - the HTC Magnum isn't real at all. I have no idea if it is a Portuguese tradition to make some jokes on Carnival (maybe something similar to April Fool?) but it was a joke - not more not less.
The makers of the photos and the video used an HP 20" LCD screen which they connected to a HTC X7500 Advantage and the results looked quite real:

Okay, you like Apple's iPhone design (who doesn't) but you are addicted to Windows Mobile as the operating system? Why not trying the "T32"? A Chinese reseller is listing this copycat as available soon and indeed, it looks like an iPhone, even if it is a little bit thicker and the 3.5" touchscreen only supports QVGA but the rest is quite identical, including a shiny aluminum-like housing (even if I have my doubt that it is the same quality like the iPhone), a two megapixel main camera and support for triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE only (come on - if you copy it you could spent at least UMTS and HSDPA to make it even "better"):
