THOUGHT: Install Windows XP on Netbooks from your Windows Mobile Smartphone
Posted by Arne Hess - at 18:06 CET under 09 - Thoughts

This week I got my hands on LG's brand new and recently released LG X110 Netbook with embedded HSDPA which I want to test as an alternative to the HTC Shift UMPC. Since the LG X110 sports a massive 160 GB hard disk drive, I planned to partition it into two drives, C: and D: which I do with most of my PCs and Notebooks anyway. While C: holds the operating system (in this case Netbook-typical Windows XP only) and programs, D: is used to store all my documents. The benefit is that I don't have to take care about my documents in case I have to re-install the operating system because D: isn't formatted or deleted but C: only. However, since the LG X110 is a typical Netbook, it doesn't features an inbuilt optical drive which makes installation of an OS a little bit more difficult.

FIX: Microsoft releases official Windows Mobile 6.1 POP and IMAP Send Mail Patch
Posted by Arne Hess - at 07:58 CET under 01 - General News

With Windows Mobile 6.1, Microsoft introduced a new feature which allows mobile operators to specify an alternate SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) server name that is used if E-Mail messages cannot be sent by using the user-specified SMTP server name. However, if the mobile operator doesn't specify an alternate SMTP server name (which most likely most carriers don't) and if the Windows Mobile 6.1-based device does not connect, the E-Mail account is corrupted and cannot send E-Mail messages. This patch, which Microsoft just released, will fix this problem and corrects the E-Mail account to allow you to send and receive E-Mails from your Windows Mobile device again.
