Following the previous photoview of the upcoming O2 Xda Guide - since last week also known as the 2009 HTC Touch Cruise - today we are presenting a 20 minutes detailed videoview of O2 Germany's upcoming Xda Windows Mobile Professional smartphone. While the O2 Xda Guide runs on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, it uses HTC's TouchFLO (2D) enhancements to make the use of the touchscreen even more comfortable. With the O2 Xda Guide/2009 HTC Touch Cruise, HTC also introduces two new TouchFLO features: Footprints and Maps Search.

UNCONFIRMED: Is Samsung working on two new Windows Mobile Smartphones?

According to a blog post at Expansys' staff blog, Samsung is working on two new Windows Mobile Professional smartphones. The so called/code-named "Samsung Louve" is said to look very much like an HTC TyTN II as well as it features a tilting screen, a 3.2 megapixel camera and it's running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, while the customized UI is said to be similar to the Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia.
The so called/code-named "Samsung Pivot" is said to be Samsung's SGH-i780 follower and, according to Expansys, the Pivot will be one of the first (maybe Samsung's first) Windows Mobile smartphones to feature Microsoft's upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 OS.

ANNOUNCED: HTC officially introduces the 2009 HTC Touch Cruise Windows Mobile Smartphone

Following O2 Germany's announcement of the O2 Xda Guide (see our recent photoview here),  HTC Corporation today announced its own version of the so far codenamed HTC Iolite which is now called HTC Touch Cruise. The 2009 HTC Touch Cruise, an update to 2008's popular HTC GPS device of the same name, boasts a new, more compact design and a host of new capabilities to offer a richer and more intuitive experience in one powerful package.
Powered by a Qualcomm MSM 7225 CPU at 528 MHz, the device features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA in addition to Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WiFi b/g and aGPS.

RELEASE: Microsoft is expected to announce Windows Mobile 6.5 at MWC

Sources of DigiTimes and Neowin.net said, that Microsoft is expected to announce its new Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system for smartphones during next month's Mobile World Congress (WMC) in Barcelona. Furthermore, DigiTimes got information that Windows Mobile 6.5 will be available to handset makers in mid 2009 with an expected launch of 6.5 smartphones in third quarter 2009. However, according to sources at Taiwan handset makers most ODMs are likely to launch their Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets in the fourth quarter for the year-end shopping season, the sources projected.

INTERACTIVITY: T-Mobile Germany to expand its Widgets-Service for Windows Mobile

Following T-Mobile Germany's earlier introduction of its web'n'walk Widgets for a range of HTC-based Windows Mobile smartphones, T-Mobile Germany recently announced to launch further widgets and support even more smartphones, including the T-Mobile MDA compact IV XL and Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia Windows Mobile Professional smartphones.
From CeBIT 2009, T-Mobile web'n'walk Widgets will be available for even more popular services like eBay, YouTube, Facebook as well as several Yahoo! services like Yahoo! oneSearch, Yahoo! weather and more. T-Mobile's "Widget-Internet" service was developed in partnership with Opera Software (well known for its Opera Mobile browser for Windows Mobile smartphones).

UNCONFIRMED: Microsoft expected to announce Sky-Service during Mobile World Congress

Neowin.net got some, yet to be confirmed, information what Microsoft might announce during next month's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. According to these information, Microsoft plans to announce a Windows Azure-based line of cloud services for its Windows Mobile smartphones. Azure, which was introduced back in October at the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference (PDC), is said to be the platform for Microsoft's Sky-services and, according to sources close to Microsoft, the company has been working on three product-lines codenamed SkyBox, SkyLine and SkyMarket. However, according to Neowin, the final offerings are likely to be named under the Windows Live branding. Nevertheless, the three Sky-services are expected to include one consumer offer, one business offer and one market place:

PHOTOVIEW: O2 Xda Guide Windows Mobile Professional Smartphone

Late last December, O2 Germany announced the upcoming launch of the O2 Xda Guide, which is planned for mid of February. Running on running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the Xda Guide (which is based on the HTC Iolite) will replace O2 Germany's Xda orbit 2. The Xda Guide is announced to come in an O2 exclusive design and is powered by a Qualcomm MSM 7225 CPU at 528 MHz. The design features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA in addition to Bluetooth 2.0-EDR, WiFi b/g and aGPS. The Xda Guide comes with a 2.8" QVGA touchscreen and sports a 3.2 megapixel fixfocus camera (but no front facing second camera for video telephony). The 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM can be expanded by microSD cards. Last but not least, the O2 Xda Guide runs HTC's TouchFLO 2D user interface instead of the more fancy TouchFLO 3D user interface.

UNVEILED: T-Mobile Germany announces the MDA Basic - a low-cost Microsoft Smartphone

Today, during a CeBIT preview event, T-Mobile Germany unveiled the MDA Dasic, a low-cost Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional touchscreen smartphone. Featuring GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth and WiFi, the MDA Basic lacks 3G support. The touchscreen features a QVGA resolution only and also the camera supports 2 megapixel only. The MDA Basic runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 and it looks like it's manufactured by HTC (the Today screen seems to feature HTC's TouchFlo 2D). No word yet about inbuilt memory but T-Mobile unveiled that the MDA Basic will support microSD memory cards:

RELEASE: O2 UK launches the HTC Advantage as Xda Flint

Unveiled during last year's Mobile World Congress as the HTC Advantage X7510 and already released by T-Mobile Germany as the Ameo 16 GB, O2 UK yesterday announced the launch of the Xda Flint. The Xda Flint is mobile technology at its best with a 5" VGA angled touch screen incorporating finger-friendly recognition and a detachable keyboard for intensive text-input. The Xda Flint has a host of applications and advanced specifications, including quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and triband UMTS/HSDPA support, Bluetooth 2.0 and WiFi, It includes a 3.0 megapixel color camera with autofocus and flash light, MP3 and video playback. There are two camera points, on the front and reverse of the device that enables greater flexibility such as video calling or full functionality as a digital camera for photographs or video. Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional comes complete with Outlook and Office Mobile.

LEAK: HTC's assumed 2009 Smartphone Roadmap hits the Web

Over at PPCGeeks (forum not yet accessible) , an anonymous user posted a couple of renderings (or to be correct, it's 25 pictures) of what is said to be HTC's 2009 device roadmap. While the renderings neither include any further device information nor were any device information posted, it seems to be legit and some of the shown devices seem to be Windows Mobile followers of today's Windows Mobile Professional and Standard smartphones (like the "Toth" which is called "Athena 2" or the "Magnet" which is called Iolite II. PROTOTYPE: Mio shows Windows Mobile powered MID at CES [UPDATE]

jkOnTheRun just reported about a Mio Technology MID (Mobile Internet Device) prototype, the company is currently showing under glass at this year's CES in Las Vegas. According to Intel's MID definition, this device class is mostly running on Linux and designed for mobile Internet access and use. However Mio's MID prototype (which hasn't has a name yet) is running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. Further specifications are a little bit sketchy but it's confirmed that the device, which reminds long-time Windows Mobile users on a Microsoft late 90's H/PC, features a 7" 800×480 screen (the prototype wasn't yet touchscreen enabled) and is powered by an ARM CPU at 667MHz. UPDATE: Getting Directions to Businesses now easier on Google Maps for Mobile

Today the Google Maps for Mobile team launched a server-side change that makes it easier to get directions to businesses. Until today, if you tried to get directions and entered a business name, let's say "Starbucks", as the end or start point, Google Maps for Mobile did not understand that you meant Starbucks - the business. Rather, Google Maps for Mobile tried to search for an address with "Starbucks" in it. Now, with the server-side change, you can get directions to restaurants, stores and other points of interest by entering their names in the start or end point:

UNVEILED: Expansys previews the HTC Iolite Windows Mobile Professional Smartphone

Expansys just confirmed the upcoming launch of the HTC Iolite, a lower-end Windows Mobile Professional touchscreen smartphone, most likely replacing the HTC Touch Cruise. Nevertheless, even if the design is somewhat different, the HTC Iolite isn't anything new because it's the smartphone, O2 Germany announced late last year as the O2 Xda Guide.
Like the Xda Guide, HTC's version is running on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional smartphone OS, is powered by a Qualcomm MSM 7225 CPU at 528 MHz and features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as European/Asian dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA in addition to Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi b/g and GPS.

UNVEILED: HTC rereleases the HTC S740 Windows Mobile Smartphone as the HTC S743

Announced late last year in Europe and Asia, the HTC S740 - HTC's latest Windows Mobile Standard smartphone (see our photo- and videoviews) - wasn't compatible with North American UMTS bands since it supports European and Asian WCDMA frequencies at 900 and 2100 MHz only. Nevertheless, HTC America unveiled today that it now plans to launch a North American version - the HTC S743 - in the first quarter 2009 too. Like the S740, the S743 combines a traditional 12-key keypad design with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and it will supports AT&T's HSDPA (850/1900 MHz) network.

OFFICIAL: Motorola unveils the MOTOSURF A3100 Windows Mobile Professional Smartphone [UPDATE]

While details and specs are still sketchy, in its CES press release, Motorola announced the upcoming launch of the MOTOSURF A3100 Windows Mobile Professional smartphone, Motorla calls a "touch tablet" with a customizable home screen which is layered on top of Windows Mobile 6.1. This customizable home screen is said to has many applications that can be accessed with the tip of a finger, a stylus or an omni-directional trackball. The home screen icons can be personalized to give 'live' feeds on weather, news, personal and work E-Mail, messaging and calendar events. WiFi and 3G connectivity make the experience seamless and fast.

fring today announced that - in response to the ongoing development they've been doing to fring for Windows Mobile - Microsoft has recognized fring and awarded them their "Designed for Windows Mobile" certification which means it's 100 % Windows Mobile compliant. Secondly, and this is even more important for users, fring just released a major new version of fring for Windows Mobile devices, including Sony Ericsson's new Xperia.
Updates in this version include the new and improved fring Add-ons plus, fring included their popular File Transfer function allowing users to send digital files over IP to all their fring, Skype, MSN & Yahoo buddies at the click of a button.

UNVEILED: More T-Mobile Shadow II Windows Mobile Smartphone information available

Not that the T-Mobile Shadow II is official yet but "The Boy Genius Report" received some further information of what the Shadow II will be most likely. According to these information, the Windows Mobile Standard smartphone will be called the "T-Mobile Shadow 2009" and is expected to be released on January 28th. Like its forerunner, the Shadow 2009 will also features the BlackBerry-like 20 keys SureType slide-out hardware keyboard and will still lack support for T-Mobile's 3G service. Other features are quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, WiFi (including T-Mobile U.S.'s @Home support), Bluetooth, a large 2.6" screen, Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard as well as all the other Windows Mobile goodies you expect from a 2009 Windows Mobile smartphone.
