UNVEILED: AT&T and LG announces the LG eXpo GW820 Windows Mobile Smartphone

AT&T and LG Electronics today announced the LG eXpo, featuring the first 1 GHz processor in the United States. Running on windows Mobile Mobile 6.5 Professional, the LG eXpo will be available exclusively for AT&T customers and is featuring quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE at 850/900/1800/1900 MHz as well as triband UMTS/HSDPA at 850/1900/2100 MHz, WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. Furthermore, the LG eXpo is the first device in North America to support an optional integrated pico projector. The LG Mobile Projector snaps onto the back of the device and allows users to share presentations, slideshows and videos.

UPGRADE: Windows Mobile 6.5 "Second Edition" is real but yet Unnamed and Unannounced

Some weeks ago, I wrote about an expected upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 version which I called that time "Windows Mobile 6.5 Second Edition". And so far, everything was completely unconfirmed, but now it seems that Microsoft is indeed working on an update of its recently launched Windows Mobile 6.5 Windows phone operating system. Mordy Gilden from mopocket just had a rare opportunity to speak with a Microsoft representative while visiting a Microsoft booth at a tech showcase event. When the Microsoft representative was asked about "Windows Mobile 6.5.1" he answered many of Mordy's questions, although he politely asked not to print his name.

UPDATE: Twikini 2.0 for Windows Mobile receives new features

There are a couple of Twitter clients for Windows Mobile available and one of the top 5 might be Trinket Software's Twikini, which was released back in April. Supporting Windows Mobile Standard and Professional phone, Twikini is one of the few Twitter apps for Windows Mobile which is entirely written in native C++ code for maximum performance and the fastest load time as possible. It already allowed to post tweets using a full screen editor and optionally allowed to set your location (either manually or using GPS) along with your status updates. Twitpic integration also allowed to post photos with your status updates, either by selecting an existing photo or by snapping a new one.

UPCOMING: Verizon Wireless and Samsung announces the launch of the Samsung Omnia II

Earlier this week, Verizon Wireless and Samsung Mobile announced the availability of the Samsung Omnia II, Samsung's latest full-touch all-in-one smartphone, powered by Windows Mobile 6.5. The North American CDMA Omnia II features a 3.7" WVGA AMOLED touchscreen, a 5.0 megapixel autofocus camera with flash, camcorder functionality and decoder with DNSe technology and on-device editing capabilities, WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. Like the European pendant, Verizon's Omnia II features Samsung's enhanced 3D cube user interface, running on top of Samsung's unique TouchWiz 2.0 user interface. The 8 GB internal memory is expandable up to 16 GB, using a microSD memory card.

AVAILABLE: Microsoft launches Windows Marketplace Mobile for Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1

As previously announced, Microsoft has just launched its Windows Marketplace for Mobile for Windows Mobile 6.0 and Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphones. Windows Marketplace Mobile, which was just initially launched for Windows Mobile 6.5 Windows phones, allows for searching, browsing and purchasing mobile applications from Windows phones (and since last week form a PC too). The new marketplace will be included with all Windows phones based on Windows Mobile 6.5, but now expands to Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Mobile 6.1, and help consumers to easily find, install and experience those applications that fit their needs and make the phone truly personal.

SHOPPING: Microsoft launches PC Browser-based Marketplace Mobile for Windows Phone [UPDATE]

As expected, Microsoft has launched the PC based shopping and account management Marketplace for Mobile. Starting today, Windows Mobile 6.5 Windows phone customers can browse, buy and download applications online at the Windows Marketplace for Mobile site, straight from the PC. The selected applications are delivered wirelessly to the customer's Windows phone and install the next time the Windows Marketplace client runs on the smartphone. This creates another way for customers to easily find and purchase applications and gives developers a whole new level of exposure.

RUMOR: Windows Mobile 7 to hit ODMs in Q1-2010 with an expected launch in Q3-2010

According to Taiwanese ZDNet, Microsoft is "almost ready" or even more precisely - ready sometime in 1st quarter 2010 - to release Windows Mobile 7 to its OEMs for the so called "Maldives" stress-test; with an expected commercial launch in 3rd quarter 2010.
This again confirms what previously was rumored already that Windows Mobile cannot/won't hit the market before Q3-2010 which would give the recently Windows Mobile 6.5 another 12 months of existence. As always, ODMs will need some time to adopt the Windows Mobile golden code to their platforms including adopting drivers and so on.

RELEASE: HTC HD2 ships in Europe and Asia in 2009 - coming to the US in early 2010

Today, during its press event in Taiwan, HTC Corporation chief executive officer, Peter Chou, joined Microsoft Corp. chief executive officer, Steve Ballmer and Harvey Chang, chief executive officer of Taiwan Mobile to announce the availability of the highly anticipated HD2 in Europe and Taiwan. HTC and Microsoft also announced that the HD2 would be available in the United States with a major US carrier in early 2010. The HD2 is the first Windows phone with HTC Sense, a customer experience focused on putting people at the centre by making their phones work in a more simple, natural and personal way.

RELEASE: T-Mobile UK to launch the HTC Touch2 and HTC HD2 Windows Phone November 9

On its preview page, T-Mobile UK unveiled, that it's going to release two new Windows Mobile smartphones, the HTC Touch2 and (as expected) the HTC (Touch) HD2 due 9. November.
The HTC Touch 2, HTC introduced in September, is a compact and stylish smartphone that is one of the first Windows Mobile 6.5-powered Windows phones. Utilizing Windows Mobile 6.5 and new services like Microsoft My Phone and Windows Marketplace for Mobile, the HTC Touch2 delivers a full touch experience that enables you to do all the things you want on your phone easily. The Touch2 expands HTC's portfolio of touch-based phones and is focused on delivering an advanced touch experience to a broader group of people.
