MERGING: Zune to replace MSN Music in the UK [UPDATE]
Posted by Arne Hess - at 18:10 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

Following its earlier announcement to launch - right in time for the upcoming Windows Phone 7 launch - Zune across Europe, Microsoft today announced plans to integrate MSN Music into Zune. There is a natural synergy between MSN Music and Zune and MSN Music will create links in its music editorial to related content on Zune.net, giving users quick and easy access to the music they care about in the Zune Marketplace. On Zune.net users will be able to browse the Zune Marketplace and purchase music from a 100 % MP3 catalogue or use a Zune Pass music subscription to stream music directly through their Internet (available in certain European countries like the UK only).

Posted by Arne Hess - at 15:35 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

And while all three Windows Phones were powered by Windows Mobile 6.5, the Global Certification Forum has just approved the Toshiba TG03 which we saw on a 2009 leaked roadmap already. However, according to that roadmap, the initial TG03 was expected to be launched anytime late 2009. Nevertheless, since it never made it to the market, Toshiba might have changed its plans and will launch it now with Windows Phone 7 instead? At least the GCF just approved it with quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as triband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 800/850/2100 MHz!

ROLLOUT: Windows Phone 7 to hit GSM/WCDMA Networks first - CDMA to follow in 2011
Posted by Arne Hess - at 10:11 CET under 02 - Windows Mobile News

It was rumored before that Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 might not be initially launched on CDMA networks, as widely used in the U.S. and now, Greg Sullivan, Senior Product Manager Windows Phone 7, confirmed exactly this. In a recent statement at CNet's Bey0nd B1nary blog, Sullivan said that Microsoft had to make some trade-offs and even Microsoft doesn't have unlimited resources. Therefore the Windows Phone 7 team had to prioritize doing fewer things really well. Since, for the worldwide market, the vast majority of phones are GSM phones, Microsoft focused on GSM first and then plan to deliver an update that will have great CDMA support in the first half of 2011.
