MWC LIVE: Nokia releases public Beta of its Play To DLNA client for Windows Phone 8

Talking about interaction with TVs, etc. and hot on the heels of the Mobile World Congress, Nokia has finally released another missing piece of software for Windows Phone 8 - it's DLNA client for Lumia which is simply calls "Play To" again. Play To allows to share photos, videos and music from a supported Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 phone to DLNA-capable devices over WiFi. This could be one of the new and connected smart TVs, a simple Windows laptop and/or desktop or a Microsoft XBox. Since this is just the first release for Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices, it's called a public Beta but in terms of functionality, it has the same functionality as the Play To application for Windows Phone 7 based Lumia smartphones.

INITIATIVE: Huawei and Microsoft going Africa with Windows Phone by launching the Huawei 4Afrika

News came in yesterday that Microsoft and Huawei unveiled a new Windows Phone designed specifically for Africa, one of the most rapidly-growing technology markets in the world. The phone, which is called the Huawei 4Afrika, is said to be the first in a series of smart devices being custom developed for the continent and released as part of Microsoft's sweeping new 4Afrika Initiative, which also kicked off yesterday. Designed specifically as an affordable option for students, small businesses, developers, and first-time smartphone owners, the Huawei 4Afrika with Windows Phone 8 will make its debut later this month in seven countries including Angola, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa.

UPGRADE: Microsoft announces official roll-out of Windows Phone 7.8 for 1st Generation Windows Phones

Yesterday Microsoft announced the official roll-out of its Windows Phone 7.8 upgrade for the first generation Windows Phones. As Microsoft unveiled earlier, Windows Phone 7 devices won't receive Windows Phone 8 but 7.8 instead, which at least mimics some Windows Phone 8 elements and also introducing further enhancements. Just to recap: The focus of the 7.8 upgrade is pretty much the new Home screen screen which adds the ability to create live tiles in three different sizes. Furthermore, 7.8 brings ten new accent colors for the surface and the daily Bing image can be used to add more individuality to the lock screen.
