If you are in the States you might watch to Europe pretty jealous because the first Smartphone 2002 is available here but no way for you to use it in the US. Here comes the good message for you guys out the: EverLink Wireless licensed the Compal device to be sold under it’s own brand name "red e".

According to a red e spokesman here on the 3GSM Congress, the SC1100 will be available commercially during the next 3 months in the US! Developers can order a pre-production device during next week! Isn’t this amazing folks, seems you will get into touch pretty soon with a great device. This Smartphone was last year the TI/Microsoft/Orange reference platform and I really like the size of the phone, even if it has an external antenna which might be a con. However, the keys are what I expect on a mobile phone, large enough with enough space to press every key pretty easy.

  • Weight: 123 g
  • Size: 124 x 20 x 53 mm
  • GSM: Tripple Band
  • GPRS: Class 8
  • Support: MMS, KJava, HTML, cHTML, WAP, XML
  • CPU: TI OMAP 132 MHz
  • Battery: 900 mAh Li-Ion
  • Talk Time: 3.6 h
  • Stand-by: up to 70 h
  • Accessories: Digital clip-on Camera

A price wasn’t given so far. Also it’s not clear today if the device will be shipped SIM-locked or unlocked. Unfortunately right today there are no plans to ship it to Canada also but might be a question of the right partners only.

Overall I have to admit that you US folks can be pretty happy to get such a great device into your hands. I would exchange my Orange SPV with the Compal/red e SC1100!

Cheers ~ Arne
