ANALYSIS: Apple iPod still blows away mobile phone music challengers

Ouch, this will hurts all Orange SPV C500 and Windows Mobile Smartphone-lovers but according to cellular-news, which posted the results of the latest mobile application report, Strategy Analytics doesn't see a bright future for music phones yet (compared to dedicated music devices like the Apple iPod) and I have to admit that my #1 music device is still my Apple iPod indeed.

In this analysis, the Strategy Analytics advanced buyer panel performed head to head benchmarks of the iPod against 4 leading mobile music enabled devices: Samsung E720, O2 XM, SEMC V800 and the SPV C500.

"The 02 XM leads for music feature usability, while the Samsung E720 was rated best overall among a relatively weak set of music phone contenders," noted David Kerr, Vice President of the Global Wireless Practice at Strategy Analytics.

While the iPod got a 92'er rating, the C500 got 76'er rating only, basically the last position of all compared devices. Looks like one of the reasons for this result was the missing media keys which should become better with Orange's C550 or Qtek's 8300/T-Mobile's SDA (II) Music.

Cheers ~ Arne
