the 3GSM World Congress it was pretty quiet around i-mate, previously the number
one Windows Mobile phones specialist, and what i-mate released yesterday cannot
keep the expectations the company has given with the announcement of its
i-mate yesterday announced the launch of a pretty basic Pocket PC Phone Edition
- the i-mate JAMA. And indeed - it's a Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition -
not a Windows Mobile Professional smartphone since the JAMA is sporting Windows
Mobile 5.0 only. But that's not the only feature it misses.
While the JAMA has an attractive 15.6mm slim build and a stylish form that
allows for a rich multi-media experience with a high quality 2.4" touch screen
that allows for easy navigation and a 2 megapixel camera; beside Windows Mobile
5.0 for Pocket PC Phone Edition it's also only featuring dualband GSM/GPRS at
900/1800 MHz (sorry - no international roaming in North America) and even misses
EDGE and WiFi and supports Bluetooth 1.2 only!
Further features are a Samsung 300 MHz CPU, 128 MB ROM/64 MB RAM.
Jack Craine, General Manager MEA, i-mate said, "The JAMA is compact,
lightweight, powerful, stylish and very competitively priced, which fits
many of today’s modern consumers requirements. It’s your personal computer
in your pocket".
Furthermore, the JAMA comes with three useful i-mate applications to enhance
the user experience such as i-mate Profile Controller for easy profile and
ringtone management. i-mate Media Control Panel is a handy application that
allows one-click access to your songs and videos from your Home screen. i-mate
Configurator is a utility that automatically locates and sets the data
connection settings to access the internet from your JAMA for many countries,
making it out-of-box ready to use.
The i-mate JAMA will be available as of June 2007; a price wasn't given yet.
