During an off-site briefing with Samsung Europe, the Korean mobile phone manufacture confirmed
that the anticipated
Samsung SGH-i780 Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone got its European
launch this week.
While carriers like
Orange UK and
Telefónica Movistar are confirmed to carry Samsung's latest smartphone,
other carriers will follow but Samsung didn't disclosed which carriers these
are.
Nevertheless, Samsung also confirmed that shipments to the open market has also
started which means you should be able to get a localized i780 from carrier
independent mobile phone shops in your country soon as well.
Prices depends on the country but without a contract, it should be available
for something around 549 Euro.
UPDATE: German
Handit.de, a Windows Mobile specialist and online shop
had it (the German version) in stock already but it's already sold out. Next shipments are expected for end of this month. And - best of all - the current price is 489 Euro only!
Does this mean its going to be available soon Sim free or only through a Network do you know?
Im in the uk and was ordering through expansys who now have told me its slipped to the 17th of march.
So is it first going to be availble through a carrier then launched sim free?
Thanks

@Jamie: SIM free into the open market. I'm sure Expansys gets its stock soon... Now I'm waiting that Expansys Germany lists the German QWERTZ version as well which will be available from Samsung as well as the French AZERTY version...

Puh, that's a tough question... Don't have any information from Expansys yet, all I know is that Samsung has started shipping the i780 and normally Expansys gets its hands on these devices pretty quick... If you want it now, maybe Orange might be the best bet. However, I always prefer unbranded SIM free devices anyway, so I would prefer an original i780... But again - I have no information if Expansys will hit the 17th or if they will fail...

@skinner: Thanks for the update. Quite a good price and good to know it's still available from PDA Max. Any experiences with them?
Posted by skinner on 19.02.08 - 16:20:07
Hi Arne,
no experiences with PDAMax until now, but the usercomments on the shop's bulletinboard seemed quite content. I ordered my device yesterday evening and it's been handed to UPS this morning so i'll let you know what's in the package when it arrives )
the only small nag i found was the hefty premium on creditcard-orders.
thx for your work Arne! skinner

Nope, i'm not Grant or i don't get what you mean
btw: UPS is a day late... need... my... phone... :-D
they deliver outside of germany for a premium of 20euros... and you have to pay up in advance or directly to the delivery guy.
mine arrived today, here's what i think so far:
pros:
- keyboard - 2 batteries and extra charger included - GUI speed - speech & sound quality - Opera 8.65 included
cons:
- no GPS-software included and GPS not working 100% as of now, there's a rumor that Samsung will soon ship a Garmin XT demo on microSD to it's dealers - no Google Maps or Google Search Integration - no IMAP IDLE on Outlook Mobile - screen a bit blurry (Cleartype off)
