Some days ago, I told you about the Mazingo World Cup channel, where you get the latest information of every match synchronized. If you are looking for a more up-to-date source, maybe you should check if your operator provides a PDA optimized portal too!
O2 Germany does it; for the launch of the xda, O2 - DE built also a pretty cool mobile portal, which is fully optimized for Pocket PCs. One highlight for me is the "kicker" Ticker. kicker is Germanys largest Football magazine and together with O2 they provide an online issue, optimized for the Pocket PC. So this ticker is more than interesting as - "thanks" to all the TV licenses - I'm not allowed here in Germany to watch every game in the free TV but on the pay TV only. As I don't have a pay TV decoder, I missed some games or even if I'm on work I can not watch every game.
Another great feature in the first round, when two games was running at the same time, was checking the parallel game on the Pocket PC through GPRS. That ticker kept you updated about everything what happened there with updates on every minute - if necessary! Also kicker provides great information about goals.
That's how a Pocket PC enhances its online functionalities and it's great to see that content provider see the opportunities of Pocket PCs now and also mobile operators, like O2 Germany, which is first in class for me on the data side, see what is possible today. Unfortunately the Web standards still doesn't provides any push mechanism, like available on WAP; which means that you have to reload the page by yourself to get an update - even if nothing new happened.
But I love to see that, beside the traditional WAP Portals, operators also starts to built Web Portals now - dedicated to mobile devices like Pocket PC and optimized for the limited screen size as well as the limited transfer rated.
Cheers ~ Arne
