Well this might have been something which I have overlooked, and probably taken for granted. The latest ROM for the i-Mate dfinitely shows significant improvements with regards to the implementation of the user interface unique to the Windows Powered Smartphones. Of course we've mentioned the obvious fixes which are a fully functional character/SMS counter and the ability to send SMS to any phone entry in th Coctacts list.

Adding the obvious power management tweaks plus the overall improvement in stability makes tis ROM a must have for every PPCW.Net i-Mate user. Well, something else seemed to have popped out from this ROM update. A buddy of mine, Norbert, who is also from the Philippines recently upgraded his ROM to the PPCW.Net i-Mate ROM and called my attention to another fix which apparently was made in this version.

We used to call this feature the "Guess your Task Feature", it was a feature that was present in the ROM version we were using here in the Philippines. It was the useless Pocket Outlook Tasks which we had no idea how to use if the subject line ended up longer than the width of the screen. Worse of all, it didn't even show the Notes embedded in it. This resulted in Tasks like " Pay PhP5,000 in th..." or "Complete proposal fo..." and the like. Imagine how useless we felt this was having no way of reading the notes or the complete task at all. With the ever truncated Subject line and no support for Notes, you definitely end up guessing what the next Task is going to be. Of course this was saved by the likes of DeveloperOne with PowerTasks, but how about those who are not willing to spend for an applications such as PowerTasks?

Well, thankfully Microsoft seems to have added some fixes to it and at least with this version, allows the task to be read in full including the Notes embedded in the Tasks. While creating tasks with the built-in Tasks feature may still prove to be still too basic, it at least shows you synchronized data entered in Outlook on the desktop PC.

While power users will still be better off with PowerTasks as an alternative to the built-in Tasks feature, those who are not too picky and those who primarily enter data in their desktop PCs can now live with the built-in Tasks feature which at least proves to be of some use now. I guess that spells the end for our favorite passtime "Guess your Tasks".

Mabuhay! ~ Carlo
