This has the potential to become something big for mobile photographers. As EyeEm, the mobile photo sharing service from Germany - which is similar to Instagram - announced this morning, it's going to launch the "EyeEm Market" later this spring. Founded back in 2009 and having over 10 million photographers from all over the world, the EyeEm team looked through hundreds of thousands of images and talked to professional image buyers. And now EyeEm believes more than ever in the huge creative potential of its community; as Florian Meissner, Co-Founder & CEO of EyeEm wrote in an E-Mail to the community. Therefore EyeEm will launch later this spring its EyeEm Market, which is said to the world's premier marketplace for real photography.

According to the invitation E-Mail, I also received, the terms are fair, easy and transparent. EyeEm photographers aka the community always remains the copyright holder of the taken images; clients will just be able to buy a license for the usage rights and the image remains for sale on EyeEm Market. Photo prices start at 1 Euro and EyeEm gives a 50 % net revenue from each photo sold.

However, participating users are somehow loosing the control about the image since EyeEm isn't excluding clients on an individual basis. The Terms and Conditions clearly state that EyeEm will not allow images to appear in a context that is slanderous, sexual, or in political extremes. Other exclusions are the usage for the promotion of tobacco or drugs or the illustration of mental and physical health problems but images can be purchased by companies of all sizes, like graphic designers, web designers, marketers, agencies and publishers - basically every company that has a website or that produces printed matter; which means images could appear on magazines, books, advertising, websites, banners, newsletters, PDF documents, blogs, brochures, documents, illustrations, booklets, billboards, business cards, packaging, presentations, postcards, calendars, posters and more.

At the moment, the EyeEm Market isn't open but ready for pre-registration. Users selected to be one of the first participants, don't need to directly upload any photos to the market since these images are already in the EyeEm profile. But EyeEm will provide a tool for participants which allows to select the photos you want to include along with adding the appropriate releases; therefore it's possible to exclude the last party shots from the EyeEm market.

The EyeEm app, which works similar to Instagram and also offers pre-defined filters, etc., is available for Android, iOS and Windows Phone.

Cheers ~ Arne
