Samsung
today announced, that the current range of Omnia Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphones
will be relaunched as Windows phones, as soon as Windows Mobile 6.5 is
officially introduced into the market. That will empower users more than ever to
stay connected and productive while on the go with unprecedented ease of use.
However, Samsung also said that it plans to offer free Windows Mobile 6.5
upgrades on the already released and available
Omnia II,
OmniaPRO B7610,
and OmniaPRO B7320,
which were initially shipped with Windows Mobile 6.1.

Interesting enough, neither the original Samsung
Omnia nor this
summer's announced
OmniaLITE
are mentioned and it looks like owners of these devices are out of luck and the
latest official Samsung Windows Mobile built was Windows Mobile 6.1.
The Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrades will be either offered by mobile operators or
local Samsung offices. A release date wasn't given today.
