CONFIRMED: The Orange SPV C550 will use Windows Mobile 2003SE instead of 5.0

Since the first leaked information most of us were discussing whether the C550 will run Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition or Magneto (know known as Windows Mobile 5.0).
Now I've received some more detailed information and screenshots of the SVP C550 which clearly shows that the C550 will support QVGA (320x240 pixel - click the thumbnail to get the full resolution screenshot) but it also shows it will use Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition (Ozone Upgrade) only, as long as it was the final (commercial) ROM version and not an early development ROM:

Also Paul over at MoDaCo confirmed this information with his latest posting:

The C550 is based on the HTC Hurricane reference design, that will also manifest itself as other variants on other networks (such as T-Mobile).

Reliable sources confirm the specs as follows:

  • Tri Band / Class 10 GPRS (no EDGE)
  • 262,000 colour 320x240 display (software actually only supports 65k colours)
  • 64/32 memory configuration (as C500)
  • 1.3MP camera with Flash
  • Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
  • Dedicated media buttons
  • Weights 107g

Not sure what I should think about the given information above, especially that it will run Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition only but is expected to support 262k colors (which isn't supported by Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition). Also, as far as I've seen on the previously received and published photos, the C550 doesn't includes a flash at all.

Cheers ~ Arne
