I'm sure most of you have already heard of Microsoft's new Silverlight, a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of .NET-based media experiences and rich interactive applications (RIAs) which is, in terms of Microsoft's definition, way more than just a Adobe Flash competitor but for sure it's also a Flash competitor.
Like with Adobe's Flash plug-in, also Microsoft's Silverlight needs a plug-in to view Silverlight applications in the browser. And while the Silverlight runtime is available as public Beta for Windows and Mac - upcoming Windows Mobile support is only announced so far but not available yet.

Nevertheless, it's coming and Derek Snyder and Scott Holden, Principle Product Unit Manager for the .NET Compact Framework, recently video walked through a prototype of Microsoft Silverlight running on a Windows Mobile device:

That's pretty cool and I wonder, if we will also see a Silverlight plug-in for Internet Explorer Mobile browser that we will be able in future to watch embedded kind of videos like above with Internet Explorer Mobile as well? At the moment FLV (Flash Video) is the standard (and I'm using it for my own videos as well) but unfortunately, these videos are not available in the mobile version of::theunwired.

Anyway - a release date wasn't given yet and it's not clear if it will be available as a stand-alone download or to be integrated into the ROM only but it seems to be worth to wait for.

Cheers ~ Arne
