Right ahead of this month's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, it seems that the first real photo of the so called HTC One 2, code-named HTC M8, made its way to the web and it seems to confirm earlier rumors and leaks. It indeed looks like HTC is continuing with its aluminum unibody design, which made the original HTC One to one of the best looking Android smartphones so far but it also seems to confirm that the HTC M8 will indeed come with a kind of dual-camera. The purpose of this dual-camera design is still totally unclear but I wouldn't expect that HTC is going to reinvent the 3D photography because that's dead, nobody cares about 3D anymore. More likely is a kind of second UltraPixel sensor for low-light conditions.
Other earlier rumors said that HTC will give-up with the physical menu buttons bellow the screen but will move the on-screen instead. While HTC said to us in earlier meetings that they are not a big fan of this development, because it's a waste of expensive screen-estate; but it definitely seems to be a trend Google might force its OEMs to.
Anyway, so far everything is a rumor, nothing is confirmed - including the above photo - but we might learn more later this month in Barcelona.
UPDATE: Looks like the photo above is a fake. Yesterday noon, Mark Moons, Director Benelux at HTC, tweeted: "Somebody has been photo shopping...." and it's expected that he was talking about the M8 photo above which made the round before. He clearly tweeted it before I put my mock-up online, so he's not referring to me; not to mention that I clearly said it's a Photoshop. (06.02.14)
