FIRMWARE: O2 Germany announces webOS 2.1 Upgrade for the HP Palm Pre Plus [UPDATE]

Following earlier information that HP won't release any webOS 2.x updates or upgrades for its current line of Palm webOS smartphones like the Palm Pre, Palm Pixi and Pixi Plus, O2 Germany just confirmed via Twitter that Palm will release a webOS 2.1 upgrade for the company's Palm Pre Plus version soon. However, what makes it even more interesting and mysterious is the fact that O2 Germany seems to receive the Pre Plus webOS 2.1 upgrade exclusively which means Vodafone customers won't get the latest and greatest webOS 2.1 bits and bytes at all (the Palm Pre Plus is/was in Germany on sale by both - O2 Germany and Vodafone Germany).

According to O2 Germany, the required webOS Doctor will be released today and there's already a Knowledgebase article available. However, unlike previous firmware updates, the webOS 2.1 upgrade has to be installed by side-loading, it won't be released as an over the air (OTA) firmware update.

UPDATE: While Vodafone Germany has yet not announced the webOS 2.1 upgrade for its HP Palm Pre Plus, HP has updates its Knowledgebase and is now also listing Vodafone's version as upgradeable! However, we have received the word that neither O2 UK nor Vodafone UK customers will receive the webOS 2.1 upgrade and yet no info if French SFR customers will get the webOS 2.1 love or not.

Cheers ~ Arne
