Earlier
November, Palm
released its webOS 1.3.1 update for the North American
Palm Pre's and today,
Palm finally released the overdone ROM update for the recently launched European
GSM Palm Pre as well which initially shipped with webOS 1.1.3 only. The new
webOS version comes with a couple feature improvements while iTunes-support
seems to be gone forever now. Also it's said that webOS 1.3.1 will not bring any
great speed boosts, other features like support for LinkedIn and Yahoo!, which now appears as
a calendar/contacts/IM account (like Google and Facebook) might be interesting
and worth the upgrade anyway.

Furthermore, it's now possible to forward text and multimedia message as well
as Palm recently launched Facebook application requires this webOS upgrade.
Also widescreen videos (including YouTube videos) are now displaying in
widescreen mode instead of being cropped. And if you tap to play a YouTube
video, which is embedded on a web page, the YouTube application launches and the
video plays in the YouTube app. Palm's webOS 1.3.1 update also brings
improvements for music-lovers. While listening to a song with album art
displayed, you can now tap the screen below the art to display a playback
slider, which allows to jump forward or backward in the song.
Last but not least, users can select a unique ringtone for new message alerts
and there's a new option available for restarting the phone by pressing and
holding the power button (while the prior restart method from the menu is still
available).
The free 134 MB update is now available as an over the air (OTA update) and
can be downloaded via 3G as well as WiFi. User data aren't touched which means
all contacts, appointments, E-Mails (and E-Mail accounts) as well as photos and
installed applications stay available after the update.
Cheers ~ Arne
