Following Palm's earlier U.S.-only webOS 1.3.5 and 188.8.131.52 firmware updates for the Palm Pre, last night Palm released webOS 184.108.40.206 for the European Palm Pre, available in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Spain. webOS 220.127.116.11 features all previous 1.3.5 and 18.104.22.168 enhancements and bugfixes which allows customers to download and store more applications by removing the current limitation of available memory for applications. Furthermore 1.3.5 enhanced the WiFi and application performance as well as it improve the battery life and multitasking capabilities (like background downloads).
Also new is that the Palm Pre now allows tethering via Bluetooth PAN which allows to use the device as a wireless modem for Notebooks. The Internet browser also supports animate GIFs now but Adobe Flash isn't yet supported but will be available with a later separate download.
Also included should be the buxfix for the webOS Calendar which had an issue with webOS 1.3.5 version in which the Calendar app displayed no events for any account after a user synchronized Calendar with an Exchange account.
As with all Palm Pre updates, the 12 MB large update will be distributed OTA (over the air), but it can be also downloaded through W-LAN instead of using a WWAN connection like EDGE or UMTS/HSDPA.
UPDATE: Interesting enough, Bluetooth tethering is only mentioned in Palm's German Knowledge Base for O2 Germany, not in the English one for O2 UK and Ireland. Can anyone confirm if the UK/Irish update features Bluetooth PAN tethering or not?
UPDATE 2: According to sources, all European webOS 22.214.171.124 versions feature Bluetooth PAN tethering. However, Carriers can allows it/disable it and as it looks like O2 Germany is the only carrier within the Telefonica O2 group whiich allows allows/enabled Bluetooth PAN tethering.
