Today, Cuppertino based PC manufacture Apple released two new iPods - the iPod Photo and the iPod U2. While the U2 is just a special edition with a different design (black instead of white), the Photo is the long awaited and often rumored "multimedia" iPod, even if it excludes video playback (yet):

Apple iPod Music
iPod Photo's menu is easier to read than ever. That's thanks in part to the clarity of the display - it offers 220x176-pixel resolution - and in part to the new Myriad typeface. Both sizes feature a razor sharp LCD display that lets you see your photos in vivid color - 65,000 colors, to be exact. And with its built-in backlighting, you'll be able to admire those photos indoors or out.

The new iTunes 4.7 version lets you import your images directly into iPod Photo from a folder on the hard drive of your Mac or PC. Spent time organizing your photos using iPhoto on a Mac or either Adobe Album 2.0 or Adobe Elements 3.0 on a PC? iTunes 4.7 rewards your diligence by importing the albums you’ve created in iPhoto or collections created in Album or Elements.

Apple iPod U2
Like no other, iPod U2 Special Edition stands out. Jet black, it bears a prominent red Apple Click Wheel and, on the flip side, the autographs of each U2 band member. It comes with an exclusive U2 poster that fans will really enjoy and, of course, the signature white iPod earbuds.

The iPod Music is available in two different versions with 40 or 60 GB and costs US$ 499.00/599.00 and is ready for order from now. The iPod U2 is available from now with 20 GB for US$ 349.00.

Pretty nice devices but personally I neither need the Photo version nor the U2 version (which looks good anyway) because for music I carry my 40 GB iPod while for portable multimedia I'm using my Creative Zen PMC.

Cheers ~ Arne
