KICKSTARTER: Able-HD to Kickstart the Able-HD Plus - Lightweight and Paper-thin Full HD LED Monitor

Last night I received a press release of an upcoming Kickstarter campaign which sounds interesting. Top 50 Kickstarter entrepreneur Nell Harton, who's earlier campaign exceeded the goal by 2000 %, is looking for further funding to make the lightweight and paper-thin Able-HD Plus monitor a truth. The Able-HD Plus monitor allows users to take the experience and enhanced productivity of a multi-monitor system with them wherever they go. The 15" or 17" 1080p Full HD display is said to weight around 2 pounds / 0.9 Kg only and is less than a third as thick as a standard HD monitor and fits easily in a backpack or briefcase. A multi-port, detachable adapter board is said to be compatible with laptops, smartphones, Xbox, Ouya, Pi, Kano and other devices, and comes complete with Audio in/out, HDMI, VGA, and DVI plugs.

A new synthetic polymer casing and rubber edging prevents damage to the monitor and adapter, while a thermoplastic acrylic screen gives the strongest, clearest resolution without sacrificing the Able-HD Plus' streamlined design or burdening it with extra weight. With a constantly updating DIY design and industry-topping price, this patent-pending technology is poised to revolutionize people operate on-the-go.

"The Able-HD Plus is going to open up a whole new world of possibilities for productivity and enjoyment, both for people who already like working with multi-screen systems and people who have never considered it before," said Nell Harton, Founder and CEO of the Able-HD startup. "Everyone carries their computers with them in one form or another. Now they can carry their screens, too."

According to a recent Microsoft study, using a second screen increases workplace effectiveness by as much as 50 %. An HD display, meanwhile, allows for 70 % more visibility. With a new, stronger package and streamlined design, the Able-HD Plus is the first fully compatible mobile HD LED monitor on the market. And at an affordable "early bird" price, the system is poised to revolutionize the way people think about their mobile computing experience.

I have to admit that I missed the first Kickstarter campaign but it's an interesting idea. For sure, I'm using a monitor in my office, next to my laptop screen. However, being a mobile worker, I often have to work at places where I don't have access to a second monitor or screen. A portable and light weighted LED display could be the solution, not only to enhance my work productivity but also for entertainment in hotels which (still) don't have flat screens which I could use to connect my smartphone to to either watch locally stored videos or stream live TV through my Slingbox. So I will definitely keep an eye on the Able-HD Plus, which is said to launch today on Kickstarter. So far, Able-HD hasn't announced the pledging packages and therefore prices are unknown.

UPDATE: According to the latest info, the Able-HD Plus costs US$ 187. However, the Kickstarter campaign is yet not online and the countdown was removed from the Able-HD site.

Cheers ~ Arne
