Alright, today is finally happening what a handful ex-Nokia employees started and worked hard on the past months. Jolla, the Finnish smartphone manufacturer launches its first Sailfish OS at a special event in Helsinki, together with its Finnish carrier partner DNA. And while the first 400 customers will get their smartphone tonight, pre-order customers from Europe have to wait a little bit longer but not too long anymore, after Jolla started sending out the final order invitations since earlier this week. If you now wonder what you will get or what all this Jolla and Sailfish OS is about, Jolla has today published a YouTube video which shows you a real and final Jolla TOH (The Other Half) in action!
Furthermore, and right in time with today's launch, Jolla has also uploaded the User Guide which shows you step by step how to use and operate TOH handset.
The User Guide also confirmed again the specs we already knew, even if Jolla is partly still not going into details. The Jolla TOH is powered by Jolla's own Sailfish OS on top of a unspecified Qualcomm dual-core CPU with 1.4 GHz. Connectivity-wise, TOH supports GSM/3G/4G LTE (the supported bands and frequencies are still unknown and unannounced) as well as WiFi b/g/n at 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 4.0 EDR HS, AGPS & GLONASS and USB2.0. It comes with a 4.5" IPS qHD display 5-point multi-touch with Gorilla 2 Glass and features a 8 megapixel AF main camera with LED flash and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera. The devices has 1 GB RAM and 16 GB flash memory which can be expanded with micro SD memory cards. It is said to have an approximately talk time of 7.7 hours / 5.5 hours (GSM / 3G). All this fits into 131 x 68 9.9 mm and weights 141 g.
Pre-order customers can expect their The Other Half at end of this year. During the pre-order phase, TOH was available for 399 Euro.
