LEAKED: Final T-Mobile Dash Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade slipped to the Web

Back in February, during the 3GSM World Congress, T-Mobile US officially announced that it will provide a free Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for its best selling Windows Mobile Smartphone - the T-Mobile Dash and over the weekend, it looks like the final version (without any Beta notifications, etc.) leaked to the Internet. Also it is rumored/expected to be released officially on May 4th (yep - that's this week already so better keep an eye on the T-Mobile US download site), the guys from gave the ROM a shot already and it seems they are satisfied with what they have seen to far:

The upgrade was quick and painless, it took about 10 minutes to complete. I'm very impressed at some of the extras T-Mobile included in their Windows Mobile 6 Standard upgrade. Very nice!!

There are some new applications that were not available in the beta version I was running. An application called Music Plug-In allows you to add a music player plug-in to your home screen. So no need to go through your Start Menu to open up your media player, you can now do it from the home screen, very nice!!!

That's definitely an interesting plug-in - good to see that carriers starts to go further and give Windows Mobile a more customized look and feel.

Anyway - since I don't have a T-Mobile Dash here, I cannot comment anyway, also I wouldn't suggest to upgrade devices to leaked ROMs, especially not if we are so close to the (hopefully) official release! But I can tell you, that for some time, I'm (officially) using a Beta version of Windows Mobile 6 on my HTC Excalibur and the upgrade is definitely worth!

Anyway - I still haven't heard anything about plans to offer the same Windows Mobile 6 ROM upgrade to European T-Mobile Mail users, which is the same device as the T-Mobile Dash, except that T-Mobile Europe removed WiFi for some reasons.
The last info I got during the 3GSM World Congress was, that T-Mobile Europe has no plans to offer a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for the Mail!
Hopefully O2 (Germany) will offer the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for their version of the HTC Excalibur - the O2 Xda cosmo.

Cheers ~ Arne
