A few weeks ago the Google Mobile team released Google Maps Mobile with Transit directions for BlackBerry and Java-based handsets. But now, with the release of Google Maps Mobile v2.2, Google also released Transit directions for Windows Mobile (Professional and Smartphone 5.0 or later) or Symbian S60 (3rd edition or later) smartphones as well as added other improvements to its latest Google Maps Mobile client. Transit directions on works by brining up Directions from the main menu and you'll see a second tab labeled called "Transit" or "Public Transport", where you can request a route using only public transportation. You'll receive a number of alternatives that take you (car-free) to your destination.

Transit directions are available on Google Maps in more than 50 cities. So whether you live in or are passing through Zurich, Ottawa, Bordeaux or Chicago you can have Transit schedules in your pocket at all times. Google is continuing to work with transit agencies to support more and more cities across the globe which hopefully are available soon.

Furthermore there are a number of other features in this new version of Google Maps for mobile which includes star-ratings for businesses, which will help you get a feel for what other people think, your search results show up faster than ever and user-generated content will now surface in your search results as well.
Unfortunately, the pedestrian mode isn't yet part of Google Maps Mobile.

As always, you can download the latest Google Maps Mobile version free of charge from Google. If you have installed a previous version of Google Maps Mobile already, it will automatically uninstalled first.

Cheers ~ Arne
