One
of the most interesting Windows Mobile smartphones in Barcelona was the Toshiba
TG01, the company announced just ahead of the Mobile World Congress. Featuring
Qualcomm's Snapdragon platform with a CPU speed of 1 GHz, this Windows Mobile
Professional smartphone also sports an enormous 4.1" WVGA touchscreen display
with image tuning technology fostered from Toshiba's LCD TV "Regza". Using
advanced picture-definition technologies taken directly from the company's
acclaimed range of LCD TVs. However, the 4.1" touchscreen has its price - at a
size of 70 x 129 x 9.9 mm it's yet one of the tallest (but thinnest)
Windows Mobile smartphones of the last years.
Therefore I'm not sure if it still counts as a smartphone or if it's already
a MID (Mobile Internet Device). However, the screen is gorgeous and also
Toshiba's Touch UI on top of Windows Mobile looks quite interesting:
And by the way - as Toshiba confirmed it's possible to change the colors of
the Touch UI stripes.
Unfortunately, the TG01's Toshiba had on its stand in Barcelona were still
pretty buggy (even if not yet running Windows Mobile 6.5) and therefore a launch
before summer 2009 is questionable.
Cheers ~ Arne
