In the recent days, some rumor came up that the Samsung Galaxy, which is still running on its initial Android 1.5/Cupcake version, might get a firmware upgrade to either Android 2.0 or Android 2.1 but here in Barcelona, at the Mobile Word Congress, we got the (yet unconfirmed and unofficial) word that Samsung's first Android smartphone won't get such an update at all. Nevertheless, there might be realistic chances to get at least an Android 1.6 update which is already much appreciated since Google's latest services like Google Goggles or Google Buzz require at leas Android 1.6./Donut. Again, this info is neither official nor 100 % confirmed but all we got is the word.
Other than that, Samsung hasn't publicly shown any new Android or Windows Mobile smartphones and at the moment, nobody was able to comment on Samsung's Android plans (while it's confirmed by Microsoft yesterday that Samsung will launch a Windows Phone 7 smartphone).
UPDATE: Our source was completely right! We just received the confirmation, that the Samsung Galaxy i7500 will indeed receive the Android 1.6 update and Samsung confirmed us that it should be available in March. Like the previous ROM updates, the update has to be done via PC, OTA (over the air) update is neither planned nor possible.
