And
if you are not interested in the latest on-board navigation systems for your
smartphone, a free but ad-based GPS navigation service has launched today by
LocatioNet Systems Ltd., which has teamed up with Portuguese mobile operator
Optimus and local partner Digital Minds to launch the "amAze" service in
Portugal. amAze is said to be a field-proven GPS navigation service designed to
work on massmarket mobile phones. It offers full navigation options as well as
mapping, local search, weather, speed trap alerts, traffic and more. The service
is compatible with all mass market Java phones as well as Windows Mobile
smartphones by offering a native client. Furthermore it's said to soon support
also the Android and iPhone platforms.

amAze Key Features:
- Turn by Turn Navigation
- TeleAtlas and navteq Maps
- Satellite map view and bird View mode
- Speed trap notifications
- Weather Forecast
- Support 15 different languages (voices included)
While the amAze download and installation is Portuguese, the language can be
changed afterwards and therefore even non-Portuguese and non-Optimus users in
Europe can use it. Nevertheless, please keep in mind that this is an off-board
GPS navigation which requires an Internet connection!
