A few days after the Star Trek was approved by the FCC, the word today is that it will be coming to Cingular Wireless in the U.S. as a carrier branded phone named the Cingular 3125. The HTC Star Trek is a "slim" form factor flip phone reminiscent of the Motorola Razr. It runs Windows Mobile 5 for Smartphone with the latest aku2 update that provides push email functionality and A2DP so you can use it with your stereo bluetooth headset. The phone also has dedicated music controls on the outside facing, so this is definately a consumer oriented phone. According to sources the phone should be around August 8th and will run $299 with a $100 mail in rebate. If the rebate functions like Cingular's typical plans you will need to sign up for a 2 year contract and purchase a unlimited data plan to qualify.
As a Cingular customer it's nice to see that they are being aggressive about releasing the latest Windows Mobile phones, in the past it could take as much as 6 months after a phone is released for Cingular to pick it up, but the Star Trek has only been available for a couple of months now. This may indicate that Cingular is becoming more comfortable with the testing and release of Windows Mobile devices.
