OFFICIAL: HTC confirms no further Android 4.2 and HTC Sense 5 upgrades for HTC One S [UPDATE]

After the Russian head of HTC confirmed on Twitter that - due to technical issues - there are no further plans to release Android 4.2/Jelly Bean for the HTC One S, yesterday morning HTC France confirmed the same on its very own Facebook page. A user asked when he could expect Android 4.2.2 for his One S and HTC replied that (according to Google Translate) "the HTC One S no longer have access to updates for future versions of Android and HTC Sense". HTC is even aware that this is frustrating news for most of us and continued to explain that "our customers can be confident that we have designed for the One S that offers video and audio experience of the highest quality".

I'm not exactly sure that this answer will really satisfy customers of the HTC One S (which is IMHO one of the better Android phones) since it's not about the "highest video and audio quality" only but also about the latest Android enhancements and - even more important - HTC Sense 5 which was a milestone Sense upgrade for HTC. As much as I always liked Sense, v5 is the by far best, fastest and lightest Sense version I don't want to miss anymore.
Seriously, I hope for HTC and its One S customers, that HTC isn't repeating the Desire HD mistake where HTC also axed the much anticipated Android update.

UPDATE: We reached out to HTC and there's indeed an official statement (in English and not in Google Translate) which basically says exactly the same as the French response: "We can confirm that the HTC One S will not receive further Android OS updates and will remain on the current version of Android and HTC Sense. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed the HTC One S to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences."

Cheers ~ Arne
