With the announcement of the availability of Windows CE 5.0, Philips has recently announced that they will re-enter the PDA market with a new entry level device aimed at the very low end market. Targeting a price range of $99 for a Windows CE powered device, they will be implementing a monochrome screen but promises to offer great connectivity through its special port.

Included with the package will be a landline click-on modem which promises blazing speeds when hooked up to a phone line. Able to run on penlight batteries, (suggesting a couple of LR6 type batteries), the device is good for at least 16hrs of continuous use.  Innovative design is the key for Philips this time keeping all controls within fingers' reach. The left side of the device features a nicely designed up/down rocker with a center action button, while the right side features 4 hard buttons that promise to allow for quick handling while the right hand is holding the stylus. In true stylish fashion, Philips has also gotten Samsonite to make their PDA cases.

This will probably be the cheapest Windows CE device ever to be produced. This device will be running on an undisclosed processor which is supposed to be super efficient while running an upgradeable ROM from 4MB to 64MB.  It will have upgradeable RAM too available at 64MB to 192MB.  Upgrades will cost from $200 to $300 depending on the ROM/RAM combination.

Availability, estimated April 2005.
